We are seeking a caring, patient, and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive primary school in Leatherhead, starting ASAP. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children with special educational needs and helping them thrive both academically and emotionally within a structured and nurturing environment.
The school has a strong inclusive ethos and a well-established SEN provision, supporting pupils with a range of needs including autism spectrum conditions (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH, and moderate learning difficulties. Staff work closely as a team, supported by an experienced SENCO and leadership team who prioritise pupil wellbeing and staff development.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and other support staff to provide tailored support for pupils on a 1:1 or small-group basis. You will help pupils access the curriculum, develop independence, and build confidence, while promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 or small-group support for pupils with SEN
Support pupils with academic tasks across the curriculum
Assist with the implementation of EHCP targets and individual support plans
Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and independence
Support pupils during lessons, transitions, and break times
Monitor, record, and report pupil progress to teachers and SENCO
Encourage social interaction and communication skills
Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff
Maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies at all times
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will:
Have experience supporting children with SEN in a school or similar setting
Be patient, empathetic, and resilient
Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
Be proactive, adaptable, and reliable
Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
Have a positive and supportive approach to behaviour management
The school is located in Leatherhead, with good transport links and a welcoming school community. Staff benefit from a supportive working environment, opportunities for training and development, and strong leadership support. This role is ideal for someone looking to build experience in SEN education or continue a career supporting pupils with additional needs.
