Are you passionate about helping young people develop confidence, manage challenging situations, and succeed in the classroom? Do you have the patience, resilience, and empathy needed to support pupils who may struggle with emotional regulation, behaviour, or engagement with education?
A welcoming school in Greenwich is looking for a committed Behaviour Mentor to join its pastoral and pupil support team to start ASAP. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to work directly with children and young people who require additional support with their behaviour, emotional wellbeing, social development, and access to learning.
The school is looking for someone who can provide a calm and consistent presence while helping pupils understand their emotions, make positive choices, and develop strategies that enable them to manage difficult situations more effectively.
The Role
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will work closely with individual pupils and small groups, providing targeted support both inside and outside the classroom. Your focus will be on understanding the reasons behind behaviours, identifying potential triggers, and helping pupils develop practical ways to respond more positively.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing one-to-one and small-group mentoring for pupils experiencing behavioural, emotional, or social difficulties.
- Developing positive and trusting relationships with pupils who may find school challenging.
- Supporting students to recognise their emotions, identify triggers, and develop appropriate coping strategies.
- Helping pupils regulate their behaviour and return to learning following incidents or periods of dysregulation.
- Encouraging positive attitudes towards education, attendance, relationships, and personal responsibility.
- Supporting pupils to improve their communication, social skills, confidence, and self-esteem.
- Using agreed behaviour plans and school strategies consistently to promote positive outcomes.
- Working alongside teachers, SEN staff, pastoral teams, and other professionals to provide joined-up support.
- Recording relevant observations and communicating concerns or progress to appropriate members of staff.
- Helping create a safe, structured, and inclusive environment where pupils feel supported and understood.
- Following safeguarding procedures and maintaining high professional standards at all times.
The Pupils You Will Support
The pupils you work with may present with a variety of needs. Some may struggle with emotional regulation, low confidence, anxiety, social interaction, frustration, impulsivity, poor engagement, or challenging behaviour .
Rather than simply responding to behaviour, you will be encouraged to understand what may be driving it and help pupils develop healthier and more effective ways of communicating their needs.
You may support a pupil who regularly becomes overwhelmed in lessons, help another develop strategies for managing conflict with peers, or work with a student who has lost confidence in their ability to succeed academically.
About You
We are looking for someone who is calm under pressure, emotionally intelligent, patient, and consistent . You should be able to establish boundaries while maintaining positive relationships with pupils and understand the importance of treating every young person as an individual.
Previous experience in education, youth work, residential care, mentoring, behaviour support, sports coaching, or similar settings would be beneficial. However, graduates and candidates with relevant transferable experience will also be considered.
This could be an excellent opportunity for someone considering a future career in:
- Psychology or Educational Psychology
- Behaviour Support
- Special Educational Needs
- Pastoral Education
- Youth Work
- Teaching
- Counselling
- Social Care
What You Can Expect
- £120 -£130 per day , depending on experience.
- Full-time and part-time opportunities available.
- ASAP start.
- Hands-on experience working directly with children and young people.
- Support from experienced education and pastoral professionals.
