Whether you’re looking to progress or diversify your experience, we’re looking for someone with strong knowledge of residential property and small commercial properties (shop units) surveying to join our Building Works Team, within the Asset Management & Investment Service Area.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the council housing assets remain sate and well maintained, while also shaping improvements that make a real difference to our tenants.

This is a full time, permanent position working 37 hours per week Monday to Friday. The role is hybrid, combining office-based work at the Mowmacre Hill Hub Office with regular site visits across the city, and home working, dependant on the needs of the service.

What you’ll be doing

As a Technical Officer you’ll carry out property surveys on council-owned and managed assets, identifying defects, recommending, specifying and monitoring of all issued remedial works. In addition, you’ll prepare technical reports along with, specifications and drawings to support responsive and planned maintenance that possibly may also be required for use in legal matters. You’ll also co-ordinate minor or major repairs with both internal teams and external contractors to ensure works are delivered on time, to budget and to high standards.

By applying your knowledge of housing and building legislation, including Building Regulations, Codes of Practice, Health and Safety, Decent Homes Standards, and CDM (Construction Design and Management) Regulations. You’ll offer advice and respond to Colleagues, Tenants, and all other relevant stakeholders. In addition, you’ll manage budgets effectively, ensuring projects and services deliver value for money.

What you’ll need

The ideal candidate will have experience of working within a building surveying / property inspection setting undertaking a range of surveys associated with responsive repairs and planned maintenance works covering various building elements (structure & fabric) across a broad range of residential building types and small commercial properties (shop units). You’ll have a strong understanding of legislation, codes of practice, and design standards relevant to residential and commercial buildings and their continued maintenance and improvements. And the ability to analyse problems, make appropriate decisions, and deliver practical advice, guidance, and solutions.

With excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you’ll have the confidence to work with Tenants, Councillors, Professionals and Stakeholders at all levels. You’ll have strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively. In addition, you’ll be able to create clear and professional reports and are able to use standard IT systems.

Due to the nature of this role, you’ll need to hold a full driving licence, have access to, and be willing to use your own transport for work purposes.
