Assistant Educational Technologist

Join our Digital Education team to provide support, training and guidance on a range of educational technologies, helping staff and students use digital tools confidently and effectively. You’ll also contribute to digital education projects, service improvements and the development of accessible training and support resources.

Please note, this job is not available for current students. 

There may be opportunities to work in a hybrid manner but you will be required to spend at least 3 days a week in the office .

Duties and responsibilities

Troubleshoot educational technology issues and provide support to staff and students

• Provide first and second line support (online, by phone and in-person) to staff and students using the University’s centrally-supported educational technologies.
• Liaise with the relevant teams within LEaD and IT to resolve educational technology support requests and problems.
• Keep users up-to-date on operational issues and updates in meetings and using Microsoft Teams and other communication channels.
• Provide reports on educational technology issues and adoption to a range of audiences.
• Develop, maintain and contribute to processes and documentation that support operational efficiency and compliance with institutional policies.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of processes to improve service quality.

Deliver training and guidance

• Facilitate online and face-to-face group and one-to-one workshops for academic and professional staff to develop their skills and confidence in using educational technologies.
• Assist with development of the online training calendar.
• Create and promote training and support materials.
• Take responsibility for keeping support and training materials up-to-date when systems and processes change.

Contribute to Digital Education projects

• Contribute to the testing, piloting, promotion, evaluation and implementation of new features and systems.
• Take ownership of allocated tasks and activities, ensuring delivery to a high standard.

Meeting support and administration

• Provide support for meetings and events by booking rooms, setting up online meetings, ensuring attendees have appropriate information and papers, and acting as secretary for several committee meetings.

Skills and experience

• Experience of using and/or supporting a range of educational technologies, including a Virtual Learning Environment.
• Experience of providing end-user support for IT systems or educational technologies.
• Experience of writing user documentation and reports.
• Experience of delivering training on a one-to-one and group basis, both online and face-to-face.
• Ability to communicate clearly and tactfully when advising staff on policy and procedural information and when writing reports and presentations.
• Advanced Office 365 skills, including Microsoft Excel, and an aptitude for working with new systems.
• Ability to work to tight deadlines while maintaining quality standards through attention to detail.
• Good customer service skills, with the ability to resolve issues without clear or predefined solutions.
• Ability to work as part of a team and to share and discuss ideas.
• An understanding of web accessibility principles and their application to the creation of accessible content.
