Staff Electrical Engineer

$145k - $160k per annum
Full-time
Staff Electrical Engineer
Boston | Onsite
$145k - 160k Basic Salary + 15% Annual Bonus

Are you a senior electronics engineer who loves designing real hardware and seeing it progress from concept to product?
Do you enjoy solving complex technical challenges, working hands-on with cutting-edge technology, and helping shape the future of healthcare?
Do you thrive the challenging, fast-paced nature of start-ups?

We're supporting an exciting and fast-growing medical technology company developing next-generation robotic systems. As they continue to scale, they're looking for a Staff Electronics Engineer to join their electronics location and play a key role in the development of sophisticated electronic systems that will ultimately support life-changing clinical applications.

This is a hands-on senior technical role, ideal for an engineer who enjoys combining technical leadership with practical engineering delivery. You'll take ownership of electronic subsystems throughout the entire product development lifecycle, working alongside multidisciplinary teams to bring innovative products from prototype through to commercialisation.

If you're looking for a role when you can join a business at the peak of their R&D, read on.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Designing and developing electronic subsystems, including schematic capture, PCB design, component selection, bring-up, debugging and verification.
  • Developing mixed-signal electronics incorporating microcontrollers, communication interfaces, sensors, motor control systems and power electronics.
  • Taking technical ownership of electronic designs from early concept and rapid prototyping through integration, verification and release.
  • Collaborating closely with software, mechanical, systems, manufacturing and clinical teams to develop integrated electromechanical products.
  • Providing technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and technicians during design, integration, testing and troubleshooting activities.
  • Supporting system integration, root-cause analysis, EMC troubleshooting and design verification testing.
  • Designing and documenting wiring harnesses, cable assemblies and electrical interfaces.
  • Building, modifying and testing prototype hardware, including PCB assembly and rework where required.
  • Producing robust technical documentation to support product development, design controls and manufacturing activities.
  • Working with suppliers and contributing to design reviews, architecture discussions and development planning.
  • Driving continuous improvement across engineering processes, standards and ways of working.
What We're Looking For:
Essential
  • Significant industry experience developing electronic products from concept through to integration, verification and release.
  • Rounded technical background - mixed-signal electronics design, schematic capture, PCB design, bring-up,  troubleshooting, embedded processors, microcontrollers and communication interfaces.
  • Hands-on experience building, modifying and testing prototype hardware.
  • Experience leading technical workstreams or owning complex electronic subsystems.
  • Strong understanding of product development within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Excellent debugging, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to mentor and support other engineers.
  • Experience developing medical devices or other regulated, safety-critical products.
Highly Desirable
  • Experience with robotics, motor control, power electronics or complex electromechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of EMC design, compliance testing, electrical safety and isolation requirements.
  • Experience with wiring harnesses, mains-powered systems, RF, RFID, imaging, video or sensor technologies.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing transfer and supplier engagement.
  • Exposure to engineering standards, architecture development and process improvement initiatives.
Why Join?
You'll have the chance to:
  • Work on genuinely cutting-edge robotic medical technology.
  • Influence product design from an early stage and see your work make a real-world impact.
  • Join a collaborative, highly skilled engineering team where your ideas are valued.
  • Take ownership of meaningful technical challenges and contribute to the future direction of the product.
  • Enjoy exposure to the full product lifecycle, from concept and prototyping through to manufacturing and clinical use.
  • Work within an ambitious, well-funded business with significant growth potential.
