This role is within the Citizen Focus pillar in the newly created Corporate & Support Services Directorate. Reporting to the Customer Service & Digital Strategy Manager, you will play a key role in providing a wide-ranging, professional, customer-led service. The organisation is a large, reputable public sector body dedicated to community welfare, digital innovation, and efficient service delivery, with a diverse team committed to making a positive impact.About you
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs, including English Language and Maths (Grade C or above), or equivalent qualifications
- At least 2 years' experience in a customer service environment, including dealing with the public, computerised accounting, and cash handling
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion and professionalism
What you'll do
- Welcome visitors, provide advice, and signpost to relevant service areas
- Manage customer enquiries via phone and face-to-face, ensuring courteous and efficient service
- Process payments accurately, including cash, credit, and debit transactions, in line with council procedures
- Administer and maintain dog licences, waste collections, and online transactions via various portals
- Support digitalisation efforts by encouraging online payments and assisting with portal use
- Handle sensitive and challenging customer issues with professionalism
- Manage incoming and outgoing post, ensuring confidentiality and security
- Assist with the day-to-day operation of the reception area and provide support to relief staff
