Community Trust Trustee
ROLE OVERVIEW
Luton Town FC Community Trust is the official charity of Luton Town Football Club, using the power and reach of football to create positive change across Luton, Bedfordshire and the communities we serve.
We are seeking committed and experienced individuals to join our Board of Trustees and help guide the next phase of the Trust’s development.
Trustees are collectively responsible for the governance and strategic direction of the charity. Working alongside fellow Trustees and the Head of Community Trust, Board members provide strategic oversight, constructive challenge and support to ensure the Trust remains well governed, financially sustainable and focused on achieving its charitable objectives.
This is a voluntary, non-executive position. Trustees are not responsible for the day-to-day management of the Trust but play an important role in ensuring the organisation is effectively led, appropriately scrutinised and positioned for long term success.
JOB PURPOSE
As a Trustee, you will share collective responsibility for the governance of Luton Town FC Community Trust and ensure the charity is managed in accordance with its governing document, charitable objectives and relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
You will contribute your skills, experience and perspective to Board discussions and decisions, helping to shape organisational strategy, oversee performance and risk, and ensure the Trust continues to deliver meaningful impact for the communities it serves.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Contribute to the development, approval and oversight of the Trust’s strategic direction and priorities.
· Ensure the Trust pursues its charitable objectives and operates in accordance with its governing document and relevant charity law and regulation.
· Provide appropriate scrutiny, support and constructive challenge to the Head of Community Trust and Senior Management Team.
· Monitor organisational performance, impact and progress against agreed strategic objectives.
· Maintain appropriate oversight of the Trust’s finances, resources, risk management and long-term sustainability.
· Ensure appropriate standards of governance, safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion are maintained.
· Contribute effectively to Board discussions and collective decision making, always acting in the best interests of the charity.
· Attend and actively participate in Board meetings and an appropriate Board Sub-Committee.
· Use relevant professional knowledge, experience and networks to support the development of the Trust where appropriate.
· Act as an ambassador for Luton Town FC Community Trust, promoting its work and reputation within professional and community networks.
· Attend Trust activities, events and other engagements where appropriate.

Education/Qualifications/Training:
Essentials
A genuine commitment to the vision, mission and values of Luton Town FC Community Trust.
An understanding of the legal duties and responsibilities of a charity Trustee.
Ability to think strategically and contribute effectively to Board-level discussions and decision making.
Sound judgement and the confidence to provide constructive challenge while working collaboratively.
Commitment to acting with integrity, accountability and in the best interests of the charity.
Ability to analyse information and contribute to decisions relating to performance, finance, risk and organisational development.
Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding.
Willingness and ability to dedicate sufficient time to Board meetings, Sub-Committee responsibilities and wider Trust activity.
Ability to work collaboratively with fellow Trustees and maintain an effective relationship with the Head of Community Trust and Senior Management Team.

Fundraising, philanthropy and income generation
Strong connections to Luton and Bedfordshire
Lived experience relevant to the communities the Trust serves
Public health and reducing health inequalities
Time Commitment
Trustees are expected to attend up to four scheduled Board meetings each year and contribute to an appropriate Sub-Committee. Trustees should also allow reasonable additional time to read Board papers, attend occasional Trust events and provide advice or support between meetings where appropriate.
Trustees are encouraged to engage with the work of the Trust beyond formal meetings to develop an understanding of our programmes, participants and communities.

The Club has systems in place to ensure that the welfare of vulnerable groups is dealt with appropriately and sensitively. Everyone working at the Club has a duty of care to safeguard the welfare of children and young people by creating an environment that protects them from harm. Our standards of practice ensure all staff are fully aware and understand their responsibilities under safeguarding legislation and statutory guidance.
The Club ensures that all staff that have a direct responsibility for children, young people or vulnerable adults, have been subject to the most stringent of recruitment practices which include Criminal Record Checks and reference checks. These staff are alert to signs of abuse or maltreatment and will refer concerns to the relevant Designated Safeguarding Officers using the agreed safeguarding procedures.
