£45,000 per annum (depending on experience)
The role
We are looking for a Tester to join our Digital Delivery team and support the Home Energy Scotland Programme. You will lead day-to-day test design and execution within your product team, working closely with product managers, business analysts and developers from requirements through to release. You will help embed a shift-left approach to quality by identifying risks early, challenging requirements and supporting functional, non-functional and grow into automated testing, focusing not only on does it work, but questions such as are we building the right thing? Is the user experience suitable?
The role reports to the Test Manager and has no line-management responsibility. Beyond your product delivery team, you will support the rollout of our test strategy, share learning and champion practical, shared ownership of quality across Energy Saving Trust.
The team
The digital delivery team is crucial to our operations, bridging the gap between user needs and technological solutions. Part of the marketing, digital, and technology centre of excellence, we ensure our products are both innovative and user-centric. This dynamic team plays a pivotal role within Energy Saving Trust, working closely with our product teams to understand both business and user requirements. They transform these insights into innovative features that empower our users to become more energy efficient.
In this role, you'll be at the forefront of supporting the establishment of our quality assurance strategy within your scrum team and wider, ensuring quality governance frameworks, standards and best practice are implemented and championing quality throughout.
Our team thrives on collaboration and support. We value the unique skills and contributions of each team member, promoting an environment where creativity and teamwork are paramount. Here, your ideas are not just heard, they are celebrated and implemented.
What you will do
Review user stories and acceptance criteria before development begins, identifying ambiguity, edge cases, risks and testability gaps early.
Design and execute clear, maintainable and traceable tests linked to requirements across functional, non functional, regression, smoke and user acceptance testing.
Manage defects end to end, including raising, supporting triaging, tracking and verifying fixes, with concise evidence that helps teams resolve issues quickly.
Use risk-based thinking to prioritise test effort according to business and user impact, while maintaining test coverage and test assets as features evolve.
Consider non-functional quality where relevant, including accessibility, usability, basic performance, security and data quality.
Work as part of an Agile delivery team with shared ownership of quality, contributing to test plans, release activity, retrospectives and continuous improvement.
Act as a quality champion, coaching and supporting colleagues within your product team and the wider organisation to apply effective QA practices.
Where you have relevant experience, contribute to automated tests – particularly Playwright UI /end-to-end tests and API testing – you will have the opportunity to grow in this area and help build automation capability over time.
What you will bring
Hands-on experience of manual quality assurance across web applications or digital platforms
Experience writing test cases, managing defects and maintaining traceability between requirements, tests and results
The confidence to interpret and challenge requirements rather than only testing against them
An understanding of modern testing agile testing approaches and experiences of shift left
Clear written and verbal communication, including concise defect reporting and test documentation.

Please submit an anonymised CV and cover letter, removing your name, address, email address, and any other identifying details. Please note, applications submitted without a cover letter may be rejected.
