The School is about to embark on a €40 million building project over six years that will see significant enhancements to the existing site.
The Opportunity
At St. Julian’s, we believe our future should be defined by the same ambition and transformative spirit that founded us. This is a pivotal moment for the school as we move towards our second century.
In 2032, St. Julian’s will celebrate its centenary. The years leading up to this milestone are a rare opportunity to celebrate our history, reconnect with alumni and former families across the world, and launch an ambitious Centenary Campaign. The Director of Development will be at the heart of shaping and delivering this.
We are seeking a leader who will drive all philanthropic initiatives, building a culture of giving among alumni, former and current parents, as well as the wider school community.
About the role
This is a hands-on operational role. The successful candidate will own delivery across three pillars:
Operational ownership: You will run the marketing and communications engine of the school. You hold the calendar, set the priorities each week, and make sure every channel goes out on time, on brand and to standard.
Team and agency leadership: You will lead, coach and organise the in-house team, and manage our agencies and suppliers with clear briefs, firm timelines and careful budget control.
Brand and admissions delivery: You will protect the consistency of the St. Julian's brand across every touchpoint, and deliver the marketing that supports admissions, the Second Century project and the road to our centenary.
Key Responsibilities
Planning and Coordination
Own the annual and monthly marketing and communications calendar, aligned with the school year, admissions cycle and key milestones.
Run the weekly team meeting, set priorities and track every workstream through to completion.
Manage the marketing budget, approvals and supplier invoices, reporting regularly to the Head and the Bursar.
Be the single point of contact across the school for marketing and communications requests, coordinating with section heads, Admissions, Operations and the Development team.
Communications and Content
Oversee the weekly parent newsletter, The Lighthouse, ensuring it is produced, approved and sent on schedule.
Lead the monthly social media plans for the school and the alumni community, manage the approval process and maintain a consistent publishing rhythm.
Keep the website current and accurate, working with our web agency on updates and improvements.
Support internal communications, so that staff are informed and aligned with what the school says externally.
Commission and manage photography, video and written content that tells the school's story well.
Admissions Marketing
Plan and deliver admissions campaigns across digital and print, working closely with the Admissions team.
Organise the marketing for open days, tours and recruitment events.
Manage paid digital activity with our agencies, tracking enquiries, costs and results.
Report on performance with clear, simple data that informs the next decision.
Brand and Events
Act as guardian of the St. Julian's brand, ensuring every output follows the brand guidelines and tone of voice.
Produce and update print collateral, from prospectuses to signage, with our designers and printers.
Support the Operations team on school events, leading on the marketing, communications and branded materials.
Second Century and Centenary
Deliver the communications plan for the Second Century campus project, keeping the community informed at each stage.
Work alongside the Director of Development to support the Centenary programme, from campaign materials to flagship events and heritage content.
Team and Agency Management
Line manage the Marketing & Communications Officer and the Marketing & Communications Intern, setting clear objectives, giving regular feedback and supporting their development.
Brief, manage and evaluate external agencies and suppliers, holding them to agreed timelines, quality and budgets.
Build simple processes, templates and shared systems so the team works efficiently and nothing depends on one person.
The ideal candidate
You are an organised, energetic marketer who loves making things happen. You maintain a clear view of the big picture while keeping your hands on tactical execution. People trust you because when something lands on your desk, it gets done. You likely possess:
At least five years of experience in marketing or communications, including time managing a calendar of campaigns and channels end to end (experience in an international school, education, hospitality or a premium brand is highly desirable).
Experience leading a small team and managing agencies and suppliers to deadline and budget.
Excellent written English, with a sharp eye for quality, consistency and brand.
Practical, hands-on knowledge of social media, newsletters, website content management and paid digital campaigns.
Strong organisational skills and comfort with project management tools, shared drives and simple reporting.
A calm, positive and proactive attitude, with the judgement to prioritise and the confidence to keep stakeholders informed.
Fluency in English. Proficiency in Portuguese is a significant advantage. If not Portuguese, you have the agility to learn the country's context rapidly and connect with our local community and suppliers.
A robust commitment to your continuous professional development.
Why join St. Julian’s?
You will join the school at a defining moment, with the trust of the Head and the Bursar and a team ready to deliver. Your work will be seen every day by our families, our staff and our wider community.
