Lead EPC Project Manager

£65k - £75k per annum
Full-time
About us

The British Energy Security Strategy set out the Government's ambition to connect up to 50GW of offshore generation to the electricity network by 2030. Delivering this ambition requires significant reinforcement of the onshore electricity transmission network - and National Grid Strategic Infrastructure is leading the way.

At National Grid, we connect homes and businesses to power, ensuring supply and demand are balanced every second of every day. From schools and hospitals to sporting arenas, we keep the lights on for millions across the UK. Through our investment in Strategic Infrastructure and the Great Grid Upgrade, we are enabling more home-grown energy, strengthening energy security and supporting a cleaner, more sustainable future.

We're hiring for a Lead EPC Project Manager to support the delivery of the nationally significant Eastern Green Link 3 (EGL3) and Eastern Green Link 4 (EGL4) projects, across the southern onshore part of the projects from Lincolnshire to Walpole, Norfolk. This role offers hybrid working with regular travel required across these project locations, and we're happy to discuss flexible working arrangements to suit you.

Job Purpose

As Lead EPC Project Manager, you will play a key role in delivering one of the largest overhauls of the electricity grid in generations. You will be responsible for developing, sanctioning, delivering and closing major infrastructure projects safely, on time, within budget and to specification, in line with National Grid's Network Development Process.

Working across complex, high-value projects, you will ensure health, safety, environmental and stakeholder considerations remain at the heart of delivery, while meeting regulatory, customer and business commitments.

What You'll Do

  • Lead projects through pre-construction, development, consenting, delivery and close-out phases.
  • Manage and coordinate contractors, consultants and project teams to ensure successful project delivery against agreed time, cost and quality targets.
  • Drive stakeholder and customer satisfaction through proactive engagement and effective issue resolution.
  • Develop and deliver the safest, most efficient and cost-effective solutions in line with CDM Regulations and SHESQ requirements.
  • Oversee project delivery activities including design, safety-by-design, commissioning, scheme closure and post-completion requirements.
  • Support consenting activities, land negotiations, cost estimation, programme development, innovation initiatives and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Produce and maintain high-quality project documentation, ensuring full compliance with governance requirements and implementation of lessons learned.
  • Monitor project performance, providing accurate monthly reports covering safety, programme milestones, risk management and financial forecasting.
  • Support procurement and contract strategy development, including the preparation of robust Site and Works Information.
  • Monitor contractor site activities to ensure compliance with National Grid standards, Health & Safety legislation, environmental requirements and CDM regulations.
  • Manage commissioning and performance testing activities and ensure accurate as-built documentation is produced for asset handover.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with landowners, local communities, stakeholders and third parties, protecting National Grid's reputation.
  • Act as NEC Project Manager (or equivalent contract type) and undertake commissioning leadership responsibilities where authorised.
  • Mentor and support Assistant Project Managers and Project Managers within the team.
  • Provide leadership support and deputise for Senior Project Managers when required.
About You

We're looking for an experienced project professional who thrives on delivering complex infrastructure programmes and enjoys leading teams through challenge and change.

Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Demonstrable experience leading cross-functional project teams.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent business writing, communication and presentation abilities.
  • Proven problem-solving capability with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Collaborative approach that embraces equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Proactive attitude with a strong commitment to safety and compliance.
Technical & Professional Expertise

  • Strong project management experience across safety, programme, cost, risk, governance, quality, contracts and stakeholder management.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering major infrastructure projects.
  • Experience operating within structured governance and business processes.
  • Working knowledge and application of CDM Regulations.
  • Strong understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, policies and best practice.
  • Contract management experience, ideally within NEC contracts.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • NEBOSH and/or IOSH qualification.
What Yourll Get

A competitive salary of £65,000 - £75,000, depending on capability. This role also comes with a job requirement car.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.

More Information

This role closes on 16th of July at 23:59, however we encourage candidates to submit their application as early as possible and not wait until the published closing date as this can vary.

We work towards the highest standards in everything we do, including how we support, value and develop our people. Our aim is to encourage and support employees to thrive and be the best they can be. We celebrate the difference people can bring into our organisation, and welcome and encourage applicants with diverse experiences and backgrounds, and offer flexible and tailored support, at home and in the office.

We're committed to building a workforce that represents the communities we serve, and a working environment in which each individual feels valued, respected, fairly treated, and able to reach their full potential.

Please note that in most cases, National Grid is unable to offer sponsorship for employment under the UK points-based immigration system. As such, applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK without requiring sponsorship now or in the future under the UK points-based immigration system. However, in exceptional circumstances where there is a clear and demonstrable need for specialist skills that cannot be sourced from the local labour market, National Grid may consider offering sponsorship. All applications are welcome from candidates who meet these requirements, regardless of race, nationality, or ethnic origin.
