Medical Laboratory Assistant

We are currently recruiting for a Band 3 Medical Laboratory Assistant within the Belfast area.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy laboratory team supporting the delivery of essential diagnostic services. The successful candidates will play an important role in the receipt, processing and management of samples, helping ensure an efficient and high-quality service is provided at all times.

Key Duties

• Receive, sort and process laboratory specimens.
• Label, catalogue and prepare samples for analysis.
• Assist with laboratory data entry and record management.
• Operate laboratory analysers and equipment following appropriate training.
• Maintain stock levels and laboratory supplies.
• Support equipment maintenance and cleaning procedures.
• Dispose of laboratory waste in accordance with departmental procedures.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
• Adhere to Health & Safety, Infection Prevention and Control, and Trust policies.
• Work collaboratively with Biomedical Scientists and the wider laboratory team.

Essential Criteria

• GCSE English Language and Mathematics (Grade C or above) or equivalent.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to work accurately with a high level of attention to detail.
• Competent IT and data entry skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Desirable Criteria

• Previous laboratory or healthcare experience.
• Experience of specimen handling or processing.
• Science-related qualifications.
• Knowledge of laboratory procedures and infection control practices.

Working Pattern

The post forms part of a 24-hour laboratory service and successful applicants may be required to work evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays as part of a rotational shift pattern.
