Support Officer (Visits and Policy)
£13.1 - £15.4 per hourEstimated
Alex is looking for an organised and resilient self-starter with top-notch political acumen to join her team.
A key focus will be arranging up to 100 constituency engagements annually. This is much more than diary management, although it is your job to make sure your MP arrives on time and well briefed! It’s about building relationships with stakeholders; horizon scanning for key issues in Westminster and the constituency; having great ideas; and knowing what resonates in the news. You’ll need to use charm and persuasion, picking up the phone to secure an invite, or having to gently say no, with no hard feelings.
You will write well. One day we will suddenly need a briefing at pace. Another day you’ll be drafting a column for a newspaper, or bullet points for a speech, or replying to constituents. You will adapt your style accordingly.
You’ll make connections, following up an issue you heard about at a surgery with a Parliamentary question; or hearing about a new law in a debate that people in the constituency need to know about.
There will also be day-to-day Parliamentary work to carry out such as applying for debates, booking tours and compiling briefing packs.
And as we’re a small, fast-paced team, there will be times when everyone has to pitch in and support each other with a variety of tasks across the board.
