English Teacher Role in a Church of England Secondary School

About the Role

The successful candidate will teach English across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging and thought-provoking lessons that foster a lifelong love of literature and language.

Students study a rich and diverse curriculum, exploring classic and contemporary texts, poetry, drama, creative writing, and linguistic analysis. You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level English Literature and English Language examinations while developing their analytical, communication, and independent learning skills.

You will also contribute to the wider life of the department through reading initiatives, creative writing clubs, theatre visits, debating, literary competitions, and enrichment activities that encourage students to develop their passion for English beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach English across KS3, KS4, and KS5

• Deliver engaging, well-structured, and challenging lessons

• Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level English Literature and Language examinations

• Develop students' reading, writing, analytical, and communication skills

• Assess progress and provide high-quality, constructive feedback

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Experience teaching English at secondary level

• Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

• Strong subject knowledge in English Literature and Language

• Excellent classroom management and communication skills

Desirable

• Experience teaching A-Level English Literature and/or English Language

• Experience leading literacy or reading initiatives

• Ability to contribute to debating, drama, or creative writing activities

• A proven track record of delivering excellent student outcomes
