The Safeguarding and Quality Assurance Service provides Independent Visitor Volunteers to Children who are Looked After and the Care Leavers of Calderdale.

We are recruiting to the new post of Independent Visitor and Volunteer Coordinator whose role is to recruit, train and support volunteers to fulfil the statutory role of Independent Visitor for children, as part of our ambition to ensure that children and young people receive the right support, at the right time.

You will take a lead in the safe recruitment, assessment, training and support of independent visitors and other volunteers in line with best practice and statutory guidance. You will facilitate groups and training sessions for volunteers in nurturing long term supportive relationships with the young people they befriend and engage with.

This is an exciting time for our service working as part of an Ofsted graded `Good` Local Authority, you will be part of a supportive team alongside colleagues delivering the Childrens Rights and Advocacy service, and where you will receive regular supervision and guidance as you develop this new role.

You will hold grade C/4 or above in English and Maths or have demonstrable experience.

A level 3 or above qualification in a relevant subject is essential e.g., Childcare, Youth Work, Health and Social Care.

A UK Driving Licence is essential for the post.

You will have a good knowledge of children’s safeguarding practices and safe recruitment along with an ability to communicate effectively with a range of people, including children and young people and crucially, be confident in the arranging and facilitating of events and training sessions for volunteers. You will play a key role in the development of the service, have an ability to work independently and contribute to local practice and policy.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. Applicants to posts that are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.

This role is based in the UK. Home Office guidance states that candidates must evidence their right to work in the UK prior to commencing employment, either as a UK or Irish citizen, under the EU Settlement scheme or having secured any other relevant work visa.
