Production Shift Manager, Matlock Derbyshire

£46.35k per annum

The successful candidate will take a hands-on leadership approach, driving operational efficiency, supporting their team, and ensuring production targets and customer requirements are met.

The Key Details

Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Hours: 38 hours per week / Nights: Sunday to Friday, 22:00 to 06:00 / Afters: Monday to Friday 14:00 to 22:00/ Days: Monday to Friday 06:00 to 14:00

Salary: £46,350 per annum

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure all health, safety, and environmental procedures are followed and promoted throughout the shift.
  • Conduct risk assessments, identify hazards, and implement safe working practices.
  • Analyse operational issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards across the production area.
  • Work closely with engineering and maintenance teams to ensure planned maintenance and repairs are completed efficiently.
  • Coordinate production plans to meet customer demand, maintain stock levels, and achieve on-time delivery targets.
  • Communicate daily with the Production Manager regarding capacity, operational issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Accurately record production output and goods received using internal systems.
  • Provide support for out-of-hours operational or delivery queries.
  • Participate in a weekend call rota to assist with operational issues when required.
  • Lead, motivate, and support a production team through a hands-on management style.
  • Build positive working relationships across departments.
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation, company procedures, and best practice.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, consistency, and continuous improvement.
  • Encourage workforce flexibility and multi-skilling across the team.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching sessions, and development discussions.
  • Set clear objectives and performance expectations.
  • Work closely with the Production Manager to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Manage disciplinary, absence, and performance matters where necessary.
  • Plan staffing levels and manage overtime requirements in line with operational demands and budgets.
  • Deliver toolbox talks and communicate training and safety updates to the team.

Training & Development

The successful candidate will be expected to support both personal and team development through:

  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • Line Management qualifications and training
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (required or to be achieved within the agreed timeframe)
  • Identification and implementation of development plans
  • Supporting knowledge-sharing and online training initiatives
  • Continuous professional development activities

Skill s & Experience ( Essential)
  • Proven management experience within a manufacturing or production environment (minimum 5 years preferred).
  • IOSH Qualification/ Health and safety Qualification
  • Understanding of industrial production processes.
  • Experience managing performance, productivity, and employee development.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Organisational and planning abilities.
  • Commercial awareness and customer-focused mindset.
  • Ability to lead by example and work effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience delegating tasks and managing team performance.
  • Proven experience in managing employee performance and development, including disciplinary procedures, performance management, and supporting career progression.
  • Experience in SAP.
