Care Support
£25.58k - £26.82k per annumFull-time
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Pathways Service, which delivers high-quality day services for adults with complex needs, Monday to Friday. We are recruiting to two permanent positions: one 35-hour post based at Spennymoor Pathways Hub and one 22-hour post based at Peterlee Pathways Hub. If you're committed to supporting adults with complex needs and are passionate about delivering high-quality care and support, we'd love to hear from you. WHAT IS INVOLVED?
Pathways Hubs are vibrant, inclusive environments that provide tailored support and meaningful opportunities for adults with learning disabilities, autistic people, and those with complex needs, promoting health, wellbeing and independence. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a positive difference and delivering high-quality, person-centred support. The role involves supporting young people and adults with learning disabilities and complex needs, including individuals whose behaviours may challenge, within a day service environment operating Monday to Friday, currently between 8.30am and 4.30pm. As part of a dedicated team, you will provide personal care, support with eating and drinking, administer medication, and undertake specialist tasks such as PEG feeding, suction support and stoma care. You will also support individuals to participate in a range of meaningful activities, including arts and crafts, cookery, music and sensory therapies, helping to enhance their quality of life. Working closely with healthcare professionals, you will help deliver specialist support programmes, including hydrotherapy, postural care and sensory-based activities. All staff receive regular supervision, ongoing support and access to a comprehensive training and development programme. We encourage you to contact Clare Rain via email at View email address on northeastjobs.org.uk or telephone Clare on View phone number on northeastjobs.org.uk to arrange an informal discussion about the role. WHAT WILL I NEED?
You will have proven care or support experience either in a professional or personal capacity, and have the key attributes required such as being naturally caring, patient and understanding, experience in supporting people with complex needs would be advantageous but not essential. Required Qualifications:
Durham County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all employees and volunteers to share this commitment. This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore if successful in your application, an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be sought, inclusive of a check of the Children’s Barred List and Adults Barred List, due to the position working in regulated activity. Applicants should be aware that the DBS check will disclose both spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings, in line with current legislation and will confirm whether an individual is barred from working with children, adults, or both. INTERVIEWS
Interviews will be held week commencing 24th August 2026. We operate a guaranteed interview scheme for applicants that can show they meet all the essential criteria and have indicated they have a disability, are a looked after young person, care leaver or a veteran. OUR OFFER TO YOU
We offer a competitive rewards package that includes attractive salaries, a generous annual leave entitlement of 27 days (rising to 32 after five years’ continuous local government service), membership of the excellent contributory career average Local Government Pension Scheme, and a range of flexible working arrangements including hybrid working (home and office) where applicable. Explore the full range of rewards and benefits on our website. Rewards and benefits are subject to individual terms and conditions. EQUALITY, DIVERSITY, AND INCLUSION
We are a proud equal opportunities employer and believe a diverse workforce brings fresh ideas and drives service improvement. We welcome applications from everyone and make employment decisions based on skills and ability. As a Disability Confident Leader, we actively encourage applications from disabled and neurodivergent people and offer support throughout the recruitment process. HOW TO APPLY
Please note, we do not accept CVs. All applications must be submitted online via the Northeast Jobs portal. Use the ‘Person Specification’ section of the form to clearly demonstrate how you meet the essential (and where possible, desirable) criteria. Applications that do not evidence the essential requirements will not be shortlisted.
