About the role This role is ideal for Nurses looking to move away from shift work into a more structured environment. We are recruiting registered Nurses (RGN, RMN and RNLD) to join a Functional Assessor team delivering Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or Work Capability Assessment (WCA) services in Reading. This is a structured, assessment-based role offering a move away from hands-on clinical care into a predictable Monday to Friday, office hours position.
The role is non-clinical and non-hands-on, focusing on assessment, communication and report writing. Key details

- Salary: £47,000–£50,000 plus approval and performance-related bonus
- Location: Reading assessment centre
- Working pattern: Monday to Friday, office hours only
- Hybrid working: A mixture of working from home and in the local office
- No nights, weekends or shift work
- Full-time and part-time opportunities available
- Right to work in the UK required (no sponsorship available)
- Full-time and part-time roles available
- Part-time options typically 3 to 4 days per week
You will complete structured functional assessments within PIP or WCA services, focusing on how health conditions affect daily living or work capability.
Assessments are completed via:
- Telephone
- Video consultation
- Face-to-face (non-clinical setting)
- Carry out structured functional assessments using clinical judgement
- Review medical evidence and supporting documentation
- Produce clear, objective, evidence-based written reports
- Communicate professionally and empathetically throughout
- Provide hands-on clinical care
- Prescribe or deliver treatment
- Make diagnoses
- Make benefit entitlement decisions
- Work nights, weekends or shifts
- Nurse (RGN / RMN / RNLD) – current NMC registration required
- Minimum 12 months post-registration clinical experience
- Good communication and report writing skills
- Comfortable using IT systems
Salary and benefits
- £47,000–£50,000 salary (pro rata for part-time)
- Approval bonus and performance-related bonus
- 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
- Pension contribution up to 6%
- Professional registration fees paid
- Ongoing CPD and clinical support
