Job summary
The Undergraduate Medical Education Unit is an award winning service, providing high quality psychiatric placements for up to 400 medical students per academic year, from Nottingham University. We need a very experienced Consultant level educator to provide overall academic project leadership to the South team. That person should be passionate about education, with a strong belief in utilising Lived Experience of mental ill health, as an invaluable learning resource. Able to represent the service nationally and internationally in creating excellence and promoting Derbyshire as a progressive and valuable place to both train and work. Main duties of the job
To lead the Undergraduate Medical Education service academically, liaising closely with Nottingham University, and other universities as required. To provide overall project leadership to medical tutors, educators, researchers and other disciplines involved in medical education. Supervise and guide students, be involved in support and any professional conduct issues that may arise, and to provide guidance on this where necessary. Liaise closely with the Service Operational Manager and other team members in order to maintain high standards for the placements we provide. Act as line manager for the medical Education Service Manager. Liaise closely with the Directors of Medical Education and Trust Board members where appropriate Be able to communicate with senior staff in clinical areas to develop and maintain good working relationships. Engage in providing expert teaching within the role to students and role modelling for other staff. About us

Responsibility for the undergraduate psychiatry placement/module within the agreed Nottingham curriculum and phase framework, and in accordance with recommendations from the relevant MBChB curriculum and clinical years committees. To provide ongoing support, advice and resolution to staff, students, tutors and other key stakeholders in relation to the South psychiatry placement programme. To identify and communicate with staff to manage delivery of teaching, lecture content, clinical posting, timetable expectations and clinical learning opportunities across adult and old age psychiatry. To advise PTU support staff about teaching staff, topics, session order, clinical team allocations and timetable requirements to enable the production of timetables within agreed deadlines. To respond promptly to requests for information, including course evaluation reports, timetable information, quality visit evidence, University reporting requirements, KPI monitoring, student support queries and tariff-related information. To support placement induction and orientation so that students understand placement expectations, clinical opportunities, pastoral support, attendance requirements and routes for raising concerns. To support the organisation and delivery of mock OSCEs, portfolio preparation, clinical supervision expectations and assessment processes in partnership with PTU staff and undergraduate tutors. To work with the DME, Nottingham Medical School, Derby Psychiatry Teaching Unit and NHS England Workforce, Training and Education East Midlands on matters relating to undergraduate psychiatry education, clinical placement quality, educational innovation, tariff-related discussions, regional workforce priorities and sharing of good practice. Assist the DME with policy development within DHCFT relating to the full spectrum of medical education, specifically in relation to medical students and the South undergraduate psychiatry placement programme. Work closely with the DME and Trust medical education leadership to support quality assurance, governance, policy development and delivery of Trust-wide medical education programmes. Attend TMTC, MSC and Medical Senate regularly and contribute to wider Trust teaching and training programmes, including reporting on South undergraduate psychiatry developments, risks, quality improvement work and University-related changes.
