Software Engineer (Node.js & React) | £40–50k | Leamington Spa (1 day a week)
When was the last time you had a proper say in what you were building, rather than just being told what to build?
If you're spending more time working through tickets than understanding the problems you're solving, this could be the right change for you.
You'll be joining an established retail business where engineers are encouraged to get involved in the bigger picture.
That means talking to the people using your software, understanding their problems and having a genuine say in how you solve them.
You might spend time with colleagues in the shops, warehouse or customer services to see firsthand how your work makes a difference.
So, what will you be working on?
There's plenty happening.
The business is moving towards a more modern JavaScript/TypeScript stack, primarily Node.js and React.
You'll be building new integrations, supporting growth projects and improving existing systems to make future expansion easier.
There's some older .NET software too. You won't need to be an expert, but you'll need to be happy understanding how it works and helping modernise it.
The role is around 80% backend, with opportunities to work across the stack.
Why might you enjoy working here?
- You'll have genuine autonomy and a say in technical decisions.
- You'll see how your work impacts real customers and colleagues.
- You'll join a collaborative team with a fairly flat structure.
- You'll be encouraged to learn, attend conferences and share ideas.
- You'll only need to be in the Leamington office once a week, with flexibility around which day.
What experience do you need?
Commercial experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js is the main thing.
React, AWS or .NET experience would be useful, but you don't need all three.
You'll also enjoy working with other people, asking questions and understanding the problems behind the code.
The practical bits
- £40,000–£50,000 salary
- Leamington Spa, one day a week in the office
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (subject to confirmation)
- Option to purchase up to five additional days
- Two-stage interview.
If you like the idea of having more ownership, working on a variety of projects and actually seeing the impact of what you build, I'd be happy to tell you more.
