Breast Care Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Breast Care Nursing Team of Breast Test Wales which is part of the Screening Division of Public Health Wales. We are recruiting a Breast Care Nurse to work within the North Wales team based in both our Wrexham and Llandudno Centres.

Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for the care and support of women who have been recalled for assessment following their routine screening mammogram. You will be expected to provide psychological support, evidence-based information and advice to women diagnosed with breast cancer and breast disease, thereby assisting them in making informed decisions regarding treatment options.

You should be committed to positive team building, delivering a high-quality service and have oncology or breast screening experience and the principles and practice of breast cancer nursing qualification, or a willingness to undertake study to acquire. Excellent communication skills are essential, with evidence of recent and continuing professional development.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Job responsibilities
The Breast Care Nurse role is pivotal to providing high-quality clinical expertise, emotional and compassionate support, education, person-centred care to service users participating in breast screening who have been recalled for further assessment, diagnostic investigations and results, whilst adhering to the Nursing and Midwifery Council's Code of Conduct.

This role is directly responsible for supporting service users who have received a breast cancer result, providing counselling, undertaking pre-surgery assessment, and efficiently transferring their care and all relevant information to Health Board colleagues.

In the absence of the Senior Breast Care Nurse the post holder will be responsible for providing operational leadership and service planning.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
  • Registered Nurse with active NMC registration.
  • 1st level degree or demonstrable equivalent experience
  • Breast Care Nursing qualification or committed to undertaking and completing within 12 months of appointment
Desirable
  • Counselling experience / Communication Skills Certificate
Experience
  • Demonstrable post-registration experience in a clinical setting working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Participating in audit or quality improvement initiatives.
Desirable
  • Previous experience in breast care, oncology, or screening services.
Skills and attributes
  • Ability to work within a team and independently as required
  • Proficient in the use of standard Microsoft software, such as Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
Desirable
  • Welsh Language Skills are desirable at levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.
Other
  • Ability to travel between sites across Wales in a timely manner to meet the needs of the service.
