Mental Health Assistant / Aspiring Therapist
Full-Time | ASAP Start | £95–£105 per day | Basingstoke
Are you a Psychology, Counselling, Education or Criminology graduate looking to gain valuable experience supporting children with their emotional wellbeing?
A supportive and inclusive primary school in Basingstoke is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Assistant to join their specialist provision, working with pupils who have a range of SEN and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a Mental Health Assistant to gain practical, hands-on experience in a specialist school environment while working alongside experienced teachers, SEN professionals and therapists.
The Role
As a Mental Health Assistant, you will support children across primary age who may experience:
* Autism and ADHD.
* Anxiety and difficulties with emotional regulation.
* Trauma-related behaviours.
* Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
* Challenges with communication, relationships and engagement.
You’ll help pupils develop emotional resilience, build confidence, manage their feelings and overcome barriers that may affect their learning and development.
Key Details
* Role: Mental Health Assistant
* Location: Basingstoke
* Pay: £95–£105 per day
* Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm

You’ll gain first-hand experience of supporting children with additional needs and develop an understanding of how emotional wellbeing can influence behaviour, relationships and educational progress.
The school provides ongoing training, mentoring and professional support, making this an excellent opportunity for a Mental Health Assistant considering a future career in psychology, therapy, teaching, youth work or social care.
Every day offers the chance to build meaningful relationships and make a lasting difference to a child’s confidence and development.
