Advanced Clinical Nurse Practitioner - Surgery

£59.8k - £67.02k per annum
Full-time
Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Clinical Nurse Practitioner to join our Surgical and Urology team at Frimley Park Hospital. This is a primarily clinical role focused on the assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients within the Acute Surgical setting, working in our developing Surgical & Urology Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit. Our aim is to provide rapid senior assessment, timely decision-making, urgent investigations, and early treatment to avoid unnecessary admissions and improve the patient pathway.

We are seeking a qualified Advanced Clinical Nurse Practitioner who can independently assess and treat a wide range of surgical presentations and contribute clinical expertise to the development and enhancement of the service. The role requires autonomous practice, advanced clinical judgement, and leadership within a fast-paced SDEC environment.

The postholder will be part of a clinical rota covering the Surgical & Urology SDEC unit and participating in Surgical Emergency Team rounds, ensuring consistent senior review, safe decision-making, and effective patient flow across the acute surgical pathway.

Due to the current trainee-heavy structure within the ACP team, this vacancy cannot be appointed as a trainee ACP. We require a fully qualified nurse practitioner who can provide senior clinical decision-making, support service development, and offer supervision and leadership within the Surgical & Urology SDEC unit.

Main duties of the job
The Advanced Clinical Nurse Practitioner is a senior autonomous clinician who works across traditional professional boundaries, undertaking complex assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of patients within the Acute Surgical and Urology pathways. The role provides expert clinical leadership, advanced decision-making and high-quality holistic care within the Surgical & Urology SDEC unit and the Surgical Emergency Team rounds.

The ACNP will independently assess, investigate, diagnose, plan and implement care for a wide range of acute and chronic surgical presentations. They will demonstrate advanced clinical skills, critical thinking and safe, evidence-based decision-making, ensuring timely senior review and effective patient flow across the acute surgical pathway.

Working within nationally and locally agreed protocols, the ACNP will practise across the Four Pillars of Advanced Practice--clinical practice, leadership and management, education, and research. They will contribute specialist expertise to service development, support innovation within the SDEC model, and ensure that evidence-based practice underpins all aspects of care.

The ACNP will act as a clinical leader and role model, supporting the education, development and supervision of nursing, midwifery, AHP and medical colleagues. They will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to enhance patient pathways, improve outcomes and strengthen the delivery of high-quality surgical emergency care.
