Senior Forestry/Arborist Officer

Requirements

You will have SVQ4/HND or equivalent in a relevant subject area e.g Arboriculture and Urban Forestry or demonstratable experience at relevant level e.g. Senior Forestry / Arboriculture Management. You will have recognised tree risk inspection qualification or willing to obtain this.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Service Manager Environment, you will lead the management, development and maintenance of the Council's tree and woodland assets and associated arboricultural services. You will provide professional advice on all forestry and arboricultural matters, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards and best practice. The postholder will be responsible for strategic planning, tree risk management, woodland management, contract supervision, budget monitoring and the delivery of operational forestry and arboricultural functions. The role will support the Council's biodiversity, climate adaptation and greenspace objectives while ensuring the safe and sustainable management of the urban forest and ensure adherence to service standards.

The Individual

You will have demonstrable experience in supervisory/management role in Arboriculture/Forestry, particularly in front line service delivery along with extensive experience in resource management, staff, equipment, contractors etc. and experience in managing budgets. Significant experience in arboriculture and/or forestry management, experience in developing and implementing woodland/tree management plans, demonstrable experience and understanding of health and safety with Arboriculture and Forestry, experience using tree asset management programmes and GIS systems and experience in undertaking tree inspections, surveys, risk assessments and preparing technical arboricultural reports is essential. You will have experience in responding to public enquiries and complaints, working knowledge of Microsoft packages, including Office 365, Teams, Word, Excel, strong leadership, negotiation, influencing and organisational skills along with the ability to coach and develop staff. You will have experience in dealing with Elected Members, MSPs and politicians, stakeholders/departmental officers and all Council customers. You will have the ability to work outwith normal hours as the Service may demand and current driving licence.
