Prep Speech & Drama Tutor

Yarm Prep School seeks a vibrant and flexible part-time LAMDA Speech & Drama Teacher to join our team with effect from September 2026.

You will work with pupils from Years 3-6 preparing them for LAMDA exams from entry level upwards and nurturing their verse, prose, acting and public speaking skills.

Key resposibilities:

• Teaching Speech & Drama to individuals or pairs of pupils in a half-hour lesson, on a weekly basis during term time. Applying a rolling schedule of lessons for during the school day and the provision of some after-school lessons.

• Preparing students for completion of LAMDA examinations from Grade 3 upwards (including Verse & Prose, Acting, Public Speaking and appropriate Theory).

• Preparing lessons to ensure progress, understanding and challenge in the students’ performance and public speaking skills.

• Incorporating Acting exercises and techniques, breathing exercises, vocal delivery, building confidence, exploration of character, writer and context into the format of lessons.

• Attendance at in school LAMDA examinations to support pupils in preparation.

• Attending staff meetings and appropriate training as required (such as all safeguarding training prescribed by DSL/DDS); participating in appraisal.

• Maintenance of attendance register and liaising with school/parents regarding any

• attendance queries.

• There may also be the opportunity to contribute to the school’s Drama co-curricular programme.

• Any other reasonable duties as required by your Line Manager.

Person Specification

• A good level of education including a teaching qualification, or equivalent in Drama and Performing Arts.

• Experience of teaching young people preferably in a similar role with an understanding of LAMDA syllabuses.

• A good command of the English language both spoken and written, and an ability to communicate well with people of all ages and backgrounds.

• An enthusiasm and passion for Drama to encourage and enthuse in pupils from a variety of different backgrounds.

• A secure knowledge of playwrights, practitioners, poets, writers intentions, literary devices and context to underpin the practical elements and extend learning. A willingness to research and prepare information on these elements chosen for examination pieces for the students.

• Able to set clear targets and encourage students to meet and exceed expectations.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.

• Able to take instruction and to work on own initiative and without supervision.

• Able to produce clear reports for parents once a year, offering clear insight into progress made and targets for future terms.

• A continued commitment to safeguarding children and young people.

• Commitment to continuous professional development and willingness to share and promote the School’s aims and values.
