Job Title: SEN Learning and Support Assistant (1-1)
Supporting an 18 year old to complete a Level 3 Animal Management college qualification
Location: Bottesford NG13 with daily travel to college or other community locations
Hours: 3 days (24 hours) per week in Notts term time, 2 days (13 hours) per week in holiday periods. Hours will be between 8.30am-5.30pm, subject to college timetable. Two year contract.
Pay: £15 per hour (employed position)
Main purposes of role:
- To provide 1-1 support and teaching assistance to N during his college studies (Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management at a local college)
- To be a trusted and consistent person for N who he can learn to rely on for support and care.
- As a key part of N's team, to support N to meet his EHCP outcomes and fulfil his own aspirations.
- To support N to be able to access education in his home, college and community positively and securely.
- To transport N to and from college, therapies and activities.
Key tasks and responsibilities include:
At all times, to provide a person-led support and learning assistance service to N, which places N's needs at the centre of all that is done.
Supporting N throughout his week emotionally, physically and with the executive function demands of his college course.
Key tasks are:
Having a detailed understanding of N's needs including physical and sensory needs, selective mutism and his particular difficulties around food.
Supporting N with a bespoke timetable of activities that help him to emotionally regulate relax and calm, and with occupational therapy activities, as advised by the Occupational Therapist.
Supporting during planned and unplanned rest breaks
Supporting N with perception taking, inference and social difficulties with support from the Speech and Language Therapist.
Listening and supporting with problem solving
Supporting with teaching and learning including (but not limited to) helping Noah to understand instructions, to initiate and complete tasks including homework, and with revision and note taking.
Helping N organise his workload, bag and files so he is ready for lessons and working to college deadlines.
Carrying and fetching bags and equipment for N
Supporting with food, drinks and medication as required.
Liaising with college staff, N's professionals and LM as required to ensure N's successful engagement with college and his Personal Budget package.
Supporting N to fulfil his weekly timetable including transporting him to college and activities. Accompanying N into the community and local area as he desires.
Supporting with the needs and care of N's animals.
Attending Team Catch ups, MDT (Multi-Disciplinary Team) and Annual Review meetings as scheduled and to provide feedback to these meetings, including a written report for N's Annual Review.
Attending paid training offered by N's professionals and other relevant professionals.
Sending a short text report at the end of each working day to LM as a handover
Developing positive relationships with other members of N's staff team
Providing cover for other LSA's, where possible.
Undertaking any other duties as may reasonably be required from time to time.
