Secondary Assistant Headteacher - Teaching and Learning

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching & Learning Leadership:

• Lead the development and implementation of effective teaching and learning strategies across the secondary phase.

• Work collaboratively with Heads of English, Mathematics, and Science to ensure high standards of teaching, assessment, and student progress.

• Oversee lesson planning, differentiation, and instructional best practices, ensuring a consistent and high-quality student learning experience.

• Conduct learning walks, lesson observations, and coaching sessions to monitor and enhance teaching standards.

• Implement and embed evidence-based teaching methodologies that improve student engagement and attainment.

Staff Professional Development & Mentorship:

• Work alongside the Vice Principal for Staff Professional Development to design and implement a comprehensive CPD program.

• Lead training workshops and coaching programs, ensuring that all teachers receive targeted, high-impact professional development.

• Support newly appointed and early career teachers through structured induction, mentoring, and coaching programs.

• Facilitate peer observation, best practice sharing, and action research projects to foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Data-Driven Improvement & Quality Assurance:

• Use assessment data and student performance metrics to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement in teaching practices.

• Collaborate with the Heads of Department to implement data-informed intervention strategies that enhance student achievement.

• Ensure the effective use of formative and summative assessments to track and support student progress.

• Provide regular reports and updates to SLT, informing decision-making on teaching and learning priorities.

Curriculum & Pedagogical Innovation:

• Ensure that the curriculum delivery aligns with best practices and meets the needs of all learners.

• Champion cross-curricular collaboration and innovative approaches to STEM, literacy, and numeracy development.

• Promote the effective use of technology to enhance teaching, assessment, and student engagement.

Stakeholder Engagement:

• Engage with parents and the wider school community to foster a shared commitment to teaching excellence.

• Lead or contribute to parent workshops and teacher-parent engagement sessions to support student learning at home.

Professional Growth:

• Stay up to date with current research and developments in teaching and learning.

• Participate in external training, networking events, and leadership programs to continually refine expertise.

• Model a growth mindset and commitment to lifelong learning within the school community.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Contribute to whole-school strategic planning and decision-making as part of the SLT.

• Support the school in preparation for inspections and external reviews, ensuring excellence in teaching and learning.

• Take on additional duties as required to support the overall mission and vision of the school.
