HGV Personal Tutor

Salary: £30,000 per annum for a three-day week (0.6 FTE, equivalent to £50,000 full-time salary)

Location: Primarily based at a major engineering and technical training facility in Ashchurch, near Tewkesbury; with occasional travel team meetings and 1:1s.

Hours: Part time, 22 hours per week, working Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday

Start Date: January 2027

About the Role

We're looking for an engaging, supportive and knowledgeable professional to deliver high-quality coaching, training and assessment to learners working towards HGV and automotive-related qualifications.

As a Personal Tutor, you'll support learners throughout their journey, helping them develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to achieve their qualification and excel within the workplace.

Using your industry experience and teaching expertise, you'll deliver impactful learning experiences, conduct workplace observations, provide meaningful feedback and work closely with employers to ensure every learner receives the support they need to succeed.

Through our dedicated support functions, you'll be empowered to focus on delivering an exceptional learner experience from start to finish.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll primarily support learners within a large-scale engineering and technical environment where apprentices are developing specialist skills on complex vehicles and equipment. This offers a unique opportunity to work with learners in a highly professional setting and make a visible impact on the next generation of HGV technicians.

• Inspire and motivate learners to achieve their HGV and automotive qualifications.
• Deliver engaging teaching, learning and assessment tailored to individual learner needs.
• Manage a caseload of learners, supporting them through regular reviews, coaching sessions and workplace observations.
• Plan and deliver inspiring learning experiences using a variety of approaches and digital technologies.
• Provide constructive feedback that supports development, progression and achievement.
• Build strong relationships with employer partners to ensure a positive learner journey.
• Support learners in applying their knowledge and skills within the workplace.
• Monitor learner progress through our Learning Management System, BUD.
• Produce clear, accurate and meaningful review, assessment and observation documentation.
• Work collaboratively with specialist support teams to remove barriers to learning.
• Promote progression opportunities and support learners in achieving their career goals.
• Maintain compliance with GDPR, safeguarding and awarding organisation requirements.

The Support You'll Receive

At Paragon Skills, Personal Tutors are supported by a network of specialist teams designed to help learners succeed.

Alongside your manager and wider team, you'll have access to:

• Quality Improvement Coaches who help maintain exceptional teaching, learning and assessment standards.
• Additional Learning Support teams who provide tailored learner interventions.

This means you can focus on delivering outstanding learning, coaching and assessment while knowing additional support is available whenever it's needed.

What You Won't Be Doing

Unlike many similar roles, you won't be expected to manage every aspect of the learner journey yourself.

You won't be responsible for:

• Delivering Functional Skills qualifications.
• Processing learner enrolments.
• Managing End Point Assessment administration.

What We're Looking For

Please note: To be considered for this role, applicants must hold both a recognised assessor qualification and a teaching qualification.

Essential

• Level 3 Assessor qualification (CAVA, TAQA, A1, D32/33 or equivalent).
• Teaching qualification such as AET, PTLLS, CET or equivalent.
• Level 3 qualification in Heavy Goods Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or a related automotive discipline.
• Relevant industry experience within HGV, commercial vehicle maintenance or automotive engineering.
• Experience supporting the development of others through coaching, mentoring, assessment or training.
• Experience managing a learner caseload and supporting progression.
• Strong understanding of apprenticeship or vocational qualification delivery.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Full UK driving licence and access to transport.

Desirable

• Experience delivering HGV apprenticeship standards.
• Understanding of End Point Assessment requirements.
• Experience working within defence, engineering or technical training environments.
• Experience using digital learning platforms and learner management systems.
