Band 7 Clinical/Counselling Psychologist

Job summary
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated 0.8 WTE Band 7 clinical/counselling psychologist to join our Camden Parents' Wellbeing Service, providing psychological interventions to parents in Camden.

CPWS is a small, uni-disciplinary team of psychologists that works in partnership with children and family services across various NHS organisations and the local authority. We provide therapy to individuals and co-parenting couples using a variety of psychological approaches (e.g. Systemic therapy, Narrative therapy, 3rd wave CBT) while working closely with the wider network around the family. We also provide consultation and training to professionals within and beyond our partner services.

We will consider applications from newly qualified (or soon-to-qualify) psychologists with appropriate trainee experience and/or interest in parental mental health. In the event of a successful candidate being pre-HCPC registered the post will be re-banded to Band 6 and made fixed term for one year or until such a time as the post-holder achieves registered status in order for the post to become Band 7 substantive. The below duties therefore would be subject to appropriate clinical supervision from a HCPC registered psychologist in the team.

Main duties of the job
This post is co-located with two other services: Camden Early Help and Camden MOSAIC CAMHS. Camden Early Help provides a family support service, working with children and young people aged 0 to 19, and their families. Camden MOSAIC CAMHS provides a mental health service to children and young people with a significant disability.

The successful postholder will be passionate about parental mental health and systemic practice. They will have an interest in disabilities and the impact these may have on individuals and families. They will also be comfortable providing consultations to team members within their host team about parental mental health.

The postholder will work across two locations: Camden MOSAIC CAMHS, Kentish Town Health Centre (NW5) and Camden Early Help, 5 Pancras Square (N1C).

About us
CPWS was established in 2006 in acknowledgement of the adverse impact of poor parental mental health upon children's wellbeing. We are a small virtual team of psychologists offering psychological therapy interventions to individual parents and co-parenting couples, embedded in a range of different mental health and local authority settings in Camden. The team also works to raise awareness of the profile of parental mental health through consultations, training and supervision. We are a friendly, supportive team and highly valued by the services in which we are located.

We are a Trauma Informed Organization and try to embed anti-discriminatory practice into our work. Camden and Islington psychologists are committed to Continuing Professional Development and the Trust has an excellent in-house programme of CPD, including courses in CBT, EMDR, Psychodynamic and Systemic Approaches.

The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis.

Person Specification
Education/Training

• Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology
• HCPC registered

Desirable

• Further Postgraduate training

Experience

• Experience of psychological assessment and treatment of adult service users in a secondary mental health setting, ideally within the community.
• Experience of working with a wide variety of service users, across the whole life course and presenting problems that are of mild to moderate intensity.

Desirable

• Experience of teaching, training and offering effective consultation and supervision services
• Experience of the application of clinical or counselling psychology in different cultural contexts.
• Experience and knowledge of working with individuals with disabilities, including an understanding of the impact of disability on children and families.

Skills

• Skills in the use of a range of methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management for a range of problems of severity and complexity presented in adult mental health, particularly with regards to its effect on children.
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with service users, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
• Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.

Knowledge

• High level knowledge of the theory and practice of psychological therapies, with demonstrated competence in the delivery of effective, evidence-based psychological interventions (in particular Systemic, Narrative and CBT for anxiety and depression).
• Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and data analysis as practised within the clinical fields of psychology.

Desirable

• Knowledge of legislation in relation to the service user group and mental health.

Ability

• Ability to form good working relationships with others in a multidisciplinary setting.
• Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.
• Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance, as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice.
