Role: Staff Investigator

Location: Ashford, Kent

Contract Length: 6 to 12 Months

Salary: £30,000 to £35,000

Randstad has partnered with a dedicated public sector organisation to recruit for this position.

The role

In this role, you'll be at the forefront of supporting ongoing and reopened child exploitation and group-based exploitation investigations. You will provide operational support and undertake quality assurance of incidents and intelligence to strengthen the identification and understanding of exploitation. This ensures the effective identification, response to, and disruption of these crimes across the force in compliance with policies and procedures. This will include working with internal units and external partners. This role will also require working with victims in alignment to trauma-informed practice, ensuring all safeguarding and support is provided or signposted to.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage actively with the investigation of current and non-recent exploitation and group-based exploitation to provide operational support.
  • Support operational activities including victim engagement, ABE interviews, witness statements, undertaking and commissioning research, progressing communications data enquiries, supporting warrant applications, and developing effective partnership engagement.
  • Support the disruption of exploitation, including the effective use of partner agencies and statutory powers to reduce offending opportunities and protect vulnerable children from further harm.
  • Undertake robust quality assurance of investigations and intelligence, working with Taskforce officers and partner agencies to identify themes, trends, risks, and emerging threats across the county.
  • Assess offender risk in relation to suspects, ensuring appropriate safeguarding responses are in place for victims and vulnerable individuals.
  • Undertake tasks as directed by the Detective Inspector and Detective Sergeant, including supporting activity linked to national operations and projects.

What you'll bring

  • Must be an Accredited Investigator.
  • Understanding of Child Exploitation.
  • Experience of investigating complex crime.
  • Previous experience of problem solving.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Good organisational skills and competent use of IT systems.
  • Awareness that exposure to child abuse material is inevitable with this role.
  • A good understanding of Information Technology (Desirable).
  • Experience of Child Abuse Investigation (Desirable).
