Equity Intervention Worker

To plan and deliver interventions with supports and challenges young people at risk of making negative choices in their lives that could lead to a unsustainable and/or negative post school destination.

Supporting and directly working with young people who have experienced challenges in their lives which are impacting on their life chances and leading to increased risk of exclusion and isolation. You will plan, deliver and review targeted pieces of work within the school to support and challenge the thinking of your hardest to reach young people. This work will be 1:1, small groups and planned programmes of interventions. As a member of the Elgin High Equity Team, you will work with school staff, families and local community organisations, to improve the chances of our hardest to reach young people to work towards more positive life choices and ultimately a sustainable and positive post school destination.

You will support and challenge the students to consider and access a range of coping strategies and approaches which will allow them to have the tools to be the best version of themselves and develop the positive working relationships that are needed to be successful in school and beyond into the local community. You will plan, deliver and review the range of strategies and supports. You will be part of the school’s wider pupil support team and work in close partnership with Pupil Support staff, mainstream staff and local community organisations, under the auspices of Elgin’s LMG. You are required to be a motivated individual who can take initiative and operate the develop and deliver the programmes on your own, supported by school staff.

Requirements

This post is considered to be a ‘Regulated Role’ under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. Under the Act it is a legal requirement for an individual undertaking a regulated role with children or protected adults to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.

Therefore the successful candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to any formal offer of employment being made by Moray Council.

• Substantial experience working with vulnerable young people and families
• Successful at delivering group work interventions to vulnerable young people
• Experience of working within a school environment
• Can demonstrate success of building relationships with young people to achieve a positive outcome
• Evidence of effective partnership working
• Educated to HNC in Education and Childcare or equivalent demonstrable experience
• Effective communication skills, oral and written
• Person centred
• Ability to facilitate and co-ordinate activities
• Objective and non-judgemental
• Adaptable to working conditions and needs of young people
• Professional at all times
• Outline clear boundaries
• Consistent, fair and assertive

• Understanding of issues affecting young people and how to engage positively with them
• You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a car/van.

Starting Salary: £32,742.45 (pro rata)
£17.37 per hour
22 Hours per week (term time only)
