As we continue to try to improve ways of working and reduce waits for elective surgery we are seeking the best Preoperative Assessment nurse the UK has to offer! By now you'll know we are one of the largest acute Trusts in the country specialising in major trauma, cardiothoracics and neurosciences and that's just the beginning. We have now gone live with our EPR system so its a really exciting time for you to join us! Working within our nurse led Pre-Operative Assessment Service (POAS) we will enable you to develop valuable clinical skills to include; collating histories, assessments, clinical decision making, recording ECG's and phlebotomy. There are also opportunities to undertake link nurse roles and participate in service development projects and away days. You might you may already be experienced in preoperative assessment or have previous surgical or acute experience; however, you will receive a supernumerary period and be supported by in-house training and a competency document. - Optimisation of comorbidities and lifestyle to reduce risk
- Shared, informed decision-making
- Triaging patients to receive the appropriate resources to support their recovery

- Effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policy and care pathways to patients/carers and the multi-professional team including situations where difficulties in comprehension occur.
- A competent practitioner, teaching, assessing and supervising/providing mentorship to appropriate students or junior staff.
- Responsible for clinical assessment of a group of patients and management of a team, ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented and evaluated, involving patients and users.
- Organisation of cross-departmental/organisational activities to support patient care pathways.
- Demonstrate technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient care management including; patient observations; equipment management and administration of agreed invasive tests/procedures.
- Utilise and ensure others utilise information and IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data.
- Manage expected (and occasional unexpected) clinical events requiring high but unpredictable levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need, referring to a senior member of staff where appropriate e.g. in an unexpected event.
- Support patients, carers and others during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e.g. imparting bad news or following an unexpected event.
- Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.

- Study at level 6 (Degree/Diploma)
- Post-Preceptorship
- Relevant qualification according to speciality
- Teaching and assessing qualification

- Post Registration professional clinical experience in pre-operative assessment and/or relevant specialty
- Post-Preceptorship experience
- Ability to successfully manage people and change
