Wage

£12,480 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices

The salary will be increased 12 months after the start date of the apprenticeship programme, with the payment adjusted according to the apprentice's age group.

What you'll do at work

As a dental nurse, your duties would include:

• Providing chairside assistance to the dentist
• Ensure the care and welfare of patients
• Preparing and maintaining the clinical environment
• Sterilisation of instruments
• Mixing materials
• Charting on the computer
• Complying with strict cross-infection procedures
• Developing digital X-rays
• Ensure adequate stocks of materials are within the surgery
• Carrying out some reception and administrative tasks

• Identify relevant and appropriate dental, oral, craniofacial, and general anatomy, recognising the diversity of anatomy across the patient population.
• Evaluate the health risks of prescribed, non-prescribed and recreational drug use and misuse on oral and general health.
• Evaluate the scientific principles underpinning the use of materials and Biomaterials, their limitations and selection, with emphasis on those used in dentistry.
