Geography Teacher - Birmingham - Independent School

The Opportunity
A distinguished independent day school for girls in Birmingham invites applications for an outstanding Geography Teacher to join its academic faculty in January 2026 . This full-time, permanent role involves teaching Geography across Key Stages 3 to 5 (GCSE and A-Level) and contributing to an ambitious, well-rounded curriculum that combines intellectual rigour with real-world relevance.

What We’re Looking For
We seek a candidate who:

  • Holds a recognised teaching qualification (QTS, PGCE, or equivalent)
  • Demonstrates strong subject expertise in geography, ideally with experience in both human and physical geography
  • Has confidence teaching at GCSE and A-Level, with the ability to differentiate for all learners
  • Crafts lessons that blend enquiry, spatial thinking, fieldwork, and geographical skills
  • Is reflective, collaborative, and committed to contributing to a high-achieving department

The School Context
This is a prestigious independent day school for girls aged 2½ to 18, located on a beautiful 14-acre campus in a leafy area of Birmingham. The school combines a rich heritage with a forward-looking approach to learning. It is known for strong examination results, excellent pastoral support, and a vibrant co-curricular life.

In recent years, students have consistently outperformed expectations: more than 70 % of senior pupils achieve top grades (7-9 / A*/A) in GCSE examinations, and the school regularly reports high levels of attainment and progress in the Sixth Form. The senior school classroom programme includes over 50 co-curricular clubs per term, and many pupils engage in residential trips, external excursions and global learning experiences.

The geography / humanities faculty is well-resourced and respected, with enthusiastic colleagues, digital mapping resources, and a strong tradition of cross-curricular links (e.g. environmental science, global citizenship, fieldwork projects). The school encourages innovation, curriculum enrichment, and partnership with external agencies to bring geography alive beyond the textbook.

What’s on Offer

  • A competitive salary package reflecting the prestige and demands of independent education
  • Access to professional development, leadership pathways, and collaborative networks within the school
  • Modern teaching facilities, departmental resources, and digital learning tools
  • A supportive environment where teacher voice is valued and intellectual ambition is encouraged
  • The opportunity to contribute to curriculum design, fieldwork programmes and enrichment initiatives

The Role in More Detail
You will deliver engaging, well-structured geography lessons across the full age range, embedding inquiry, map skills, data interpretation and sustainable thinking. You’ll support students’ progress through carefully scaffolded assessment, differentiated challenge, and targeted feedback.

You will contribute to departmental planning, resource development, and curriculum review. You may also lead field trips (local, national or international), coordinate geography clubs or initiatives, or integrate geographical themes into whole-school events and cross-disciplinary projects.

How to Apply
If you are an enthusiastic and accomplished Geography Teacher wishing to join a distinguished girls’ school where academic excellence, breadth of opportunity, and pastoral care come together, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please send your CV.
