Are you an experienced children's nurse with a passion for improving outcomes for children and young people with asthma? We are seeking an enthusiastic, innovative, and highly motivated Paediatric Respiratory Clinical Nurse Specialist to lead and develop high-quality asthma care across both local and regional services.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic multidisciplinary respiratory team, providing expert clinical leadership and specialist nursing care for children and young people with asthma. You will play a pivotal role in delivering evidence-based care, reducing health inequalities, improving patient outcomes, and supporting the development of integrated asthma services across primary, secondary, and tertiary care.

As the Paediatric Respiratory Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will: Provide expert assessment, management, and follow-up for children and young people with asthma across inpatient and outpatient settings; Deliver education to children, young people, families, schools, and healthcare professionals; work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, primary care, community services, schools, and regional respiratory networks to ensure seamless, patient-centred care; Support service development through audit, research, innovation, and evidence-based practice.

Main duties of the job
The post holder is a recognised expert in the specialty, responsible for assessing, developing and implementing specialist nursing care programmes and undertaking specialist nursing procedures

Responsible for providing specialist advice and support to, and liaising with, other staff. This includes the provision of specialist education and training for other staff and students

Responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care encompassing new treatments and evidence based care

Required to undertake research and lead clinical audits in own specialist area

You will also be a registered Children's Nurse with: significant post-registration experience in respiratory nursing care; Have advanced knowledge of asthma management and current national guidelines; Be experienced in multidisciplinary working; Committed to your own professional development and delivering compassionate, family centred care.

Essential
  • RSCN/ RN Child
  • First Degree (or equivalent level) in nursing or health-related subject
  • High Dependency/ PICU Course
  • Teaching and Assessing qualification
  • Evidence of on-going CPD
Desirable
  • Post-graduate Diploma/ Degree/Masters
  • Counselling qualification
  • Non-medical prescriber
  • Advanced communication skills
Experience
Essential
  • Working with acute and chronically ill children and young people
  • PICU/ NICU experience or
  • Evidence of having worked collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrate a commitment to teaching colleagues / students and involvement in mentorship
  • Community experience
Desirable
  • Experience in caring for children with ophthalmologic conditions, and their families
  • Evidence of publications in nursing journals
  • NHS Experience
