Trust Doctor - Mental Health Services for Older People

The post is based with the Hambleton and Richmondshire Memory Service a service for the assessment and management of cognitive disorders (working age adults and Older Adults)

You will work within a Community Mental Health Team for older people assessing and treating Functional and Organic Mental Disorders.

Work will involve attendance at Out Patient Clinics and home visits as directed by the supervising consultant.

Main duties of the job

• Assess and manage common psychiatric emergencies and conditions - including competent dementia assessment and perform suicide risk assessment.
• Be aware of the procedures for assessment and implementation of detaining /admitting patients under the Mental Health Act.
• Make appropriate referral to other professionals.
• Work with colleagues within the multi-disciplinary setting
• Participate in the resident doctor on-call rota

Clinical Knowledge & Skills
Essential

• Good knowledge and experience of working in psychiatry - particularly old age psychiatry
• Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

Academic Skills and Lifelong Learning
Essential

• Must be up to date with psychiatric knowledge and mental health service provision in the NHS

Desirable

• Ability to teach and pass on knowledge to team members

Qualifications
Essential

• MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.

Desirable

• Postgraduate qualification in psychiatry

Eligibility
Essential

• Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of submitting your application.

Experience

• Experience of working in old age psychiatry in the NHS
