Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Biotechnology/Reproductive Science/Stem Cell Science

Grade: TSR3 (1.0 FTE – full-time) or TSR4 (0.8 FTE – part-time).

Applicants appointed at TSR3 will be employed on a full-time basis, while applicants appointed at TSR4 will be employed on a 0.8 FTE basis.

The School of Natural Sciences sits within the Faculty of Science, Business and Enterprise, and brings together excellence in biological, chemical, and physical sciences. We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience in, but not limited to, reproductive sciences and assisted reproductive technologies. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing academic team and to contribute to, and potentially lead, our postgraduate courses within a developing portfolio - focused on advanced and applied biotechnologies. As a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, your role would be to contribute to, or lead, the delivery, development, and enhancement of our postgraduate provision within the School of Natural Sciences. The post holder will provide an inclusive and supportive learning environment, contribute to curriculum design, and ensure that teaching and learning remain responsive to changing scientific, clinical, and industrial market demands. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: Reproductive Biotechnology, including but not limited to Assisted Reproductive Technologies; Reproductive Endocrinology; Biotechnological applications relevant to healthcare, fertility, or life sciences industries; experience linking biotechnology to clinical practice, industry, or healthcare innovation will be considered an asset. Candidates should hold a higher degree or relevant clinical experience and qualifications and have teaching and training experience at HE and/or in clinical settings.

The successful applicant should be willing and able to offer both undergraduate and postgraduate dissertation projects that inspire students and provide authentic opportunities for conducting meaningful research. We pride ourselves in the provision of high-quality teaching and welcome candidates with an up to date understanding of engaging and effective teaching and learning methods. Opportunities will be available to develop research interests either independently or as part of an expanding group of specialists in the School. The post holder will be expected to undertake a postgraduate qualification in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education at the University, unless they already hold an equivalent teaching qualification or are a Fellow of Higher Education Authority (FHEA).

The successful candidate will be joining an active, teaching focused School that also has a vibrant and active research ethos. The School includes animal behaviourists, molecular biologists, entomologists, marine biologists, veterinary scientists, forensic biologists, chemical engineers, surface scientists and specialists in drug discovery, offering many opportunities for collaboration.

The School sits on the main Chester University campus and has access to numerous teaching laboratories, preparation rooms and research laboratories, as well as high-specification seminar and lecture theatre spaces. The Chester campus is close to the city centre with excellent facilities for students and staff. We have close links with Pathways Intermediates, Chester, Shrewsbury and Telford NHS, and Marches Biogas.

The taught courses of interest to the candidate are delivered within the School of Natural Sciences and the person appointed will report to the Head of School of Natural Sciences. In addition, the post holder will be expected to undertake a postgraduate qualification in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education at the University, unless they already hold an equivalent teaching qualification or are a Fellow of Higher Education Authority (FHEA). Applications from candidates wishing to work on a part-time basis are welcome and will be considered. Appointment level (Lecturer or Senior Lecturer) will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
