We’re currently working with an established construction business that is looking to appoint a Design Manager or Senior Design Manager to join their team in Derby.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Design Manager with a background in healthcare or education frameworks, who is confident working across both pre-construction and project delivery.

You’ll be involved in a variety of schemes across the East Midlands and South Yorkshire, working closely with clients, consultants, contractors and internal teams to ensure design is effectively managed from early-stage planning through to delivery.

The Role

As Design Manager / Senior Design Manager, you will be responsible for managing design activities across projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, efficiently, commercially and to the required quality standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing design activities throughout pre-construction and project delivery
• Coordinating design teams, consultants, subcontractors and key stakeholders
• Managing design programmes and ensuring key design information is delivered on time
• Reviewing and challenging design proposals to ensure buildability and compliance
• Working closely with project and commercial teams to identify and resolve design issues
• Supporting the pre-construction process, including tenders, bids and design development
• Managing design risk and ensuring relevant technical information is captured and communicated
• Attending design meetings and maintaining strong relationships with clients and consultants
• Supporting the successful transition from pre-construction through to construction

About You

We’re looking for either a Design Manager or Senior Design Manager who can demonstrate:

• Previous experience working within the construction industry
• Experience delivering projects within healthcare and/or education
• Framework experience within either healthcare or education is essential
• Strong knowledge of both pre-construction and delivery design activities
• Experience coordinating consultants, design teams and subcontractors
• A good understanding of construction methodology, buildability and technical design
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• The ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
• The successful candidate will ideally have experience working on public-sector schemes, particularly within healthcare or education frameworks.
