Property and Regeneration Lawyer

3 Month Contract With A Local Authority

Job Purpose

To provide high-quality legal advice and support on a broad range of property and regeneration matters, ensuring the Council's interests are protected while facilitating the delivery of property transactions, regeneration initiatives, and development projects. The postholder will represent the Council in legal proceedings, negotiate agreements, and provide clear, practical legal guidance to internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice on property, regeneration, and development matters.
  • Manage a varied caseload of commercial and local authority property work.
  • Support regeneration and development projects, including drafting and negotiating legal agreements.
  • Represent the Council in courts, tribunals, public inquiries, arbitrations, and other legal proceedings where required.
  • Negotiate on behalf of the Council with external organisations and stakeholders.
  • Draft, review, and interpret legal documents, contracts, and reports relating to legislation.
  • Attend and provide legal support at committees, working parties, case conferences, and meetings as required.
  • Ensure legal work is delivered in accordance with relevant legislation, regulations, and Council policies.

Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with a current practising certificate (where applicable).
  • Experience in property law, ideally within a local authority environment, although candidates with a commercial property background will also be considered.
  • Experience advising on regeneration and development projects is highly desirable.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload and work effectively to deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Availability to attend the office a minimum of two days per week (Monday and Wednesday).

  • Location: LB of Greenwich - Hybrid – office attendance required a minimum of two days per week (Monday and Wednesday).
  • Hours per Week: 35 hours
