We are seeking an enthusiastic, committed and proactive SENDCo to lead and further develop SEND provision across two inclusive and welcoming primary schools in Plymouth.
This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate practitioner to make a meaningful impact—ensuring that every child, regardless of need, can thrive and fully access the curriculum. You will play a pivotal role in shaping inclusive practice, supporting colleagues, and working in close partnership with families and external agencies.
About the Role
As SENDCo, you will:
- Lead and coordinate high-quality SEND provision across both schools
- Champion inclusive practice, ensuring early identification and effective support for pupils with additional needs
- Monitor, track and evaluate pupil progress, using data to inform practice and drive improved outcomes
- Work collaboratively with teachers to adapt teaching and secure high-quality provision for all learners
- Build strong, effective partnerships with parents, carers and external professionals
- Support staff in implementing effective, trauma-informed and evidence-based approaches
- Contribute strategically as a valued member of the Senior Leadership Team
About You
We are looking for a dedicated and knowledgeable professional who:
- Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and has experience working with pupils with SEND
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of inclusive teaching and learning
- Has a secure knowledge of statutory duties relating to SEND and equality
- Is confident in using data to identify needs, track progress and evaluate impact
- Recognises the importance of early identification and intervention
- Has knowledge of a range of evidence-based strategies and interventions to support pupils with additional needs
- Builds positive, collaborative relationships with staff, families and external agencies
- Is committed to supporting colleagues and developing confidence in inclusive classroom practice
- Can support and promote a trauma-informed approach to behaviour and inclusion
- Ideally holds the NASENCO qualification or NPQ SEN, or is willing to work towards it
What We Offer
- A strong and supportive network of experienced SENDCos across the Trust
- An experienced and committed Senior Leadership Team with a proven track record in SEND
- Fully funded NPQ SEN (where required)
- A meaningful leadership role with a clear voice in whole-school development
- Ongoing professional development and opportunities for career progression
- Two inclusive school communities with a shared ethos of care, respect and ambition for all
About the School - High Street Primary Academy
Our vision is clear; every child matters, every day. Every child at High Street Academy is supported to achieve their full potential - we work tirelessly and collaboratively as a team to offer all children the opportunity to meet their aspirations beyond expectations. Children enter school each morning excited to begin learning and pupils, staff and parents want High Street Primary to be the best that it can be.
High Street is a small community school with approximately 220 children on roll from age two to age eleven. We work with external agencies and all stakeholders to ensure we offer our community the support and commitment they deserve. We have a wonderful team of teaching and non-teaching staff and we pride ourselves on the caring relationships we have built between all of the members of our ‘school family’. In July 2023, OFSTED inspectors rated the school as ‘good’, praising the highly ambitious curriculum, the speed in which children gained the knowledge and skills they need, the support given to children to read confidently. Inclusion is a strength within the school; all pupils including those with SEND, make good progress. Pupil behaviour is good and we use our bespoke manners curriculum to encourage a warm and friendly ethos.
About the School - Marlborough Primary Academy
Our mission, at Marlborough Primary Academy, is to nurture children with active and creative minds, a sense of understanding and compassion for others, and encourage them to lead aspirational fulfilling lives developing the skills to become independent, self-sufficient adults who will succeed and contribute responsibly in a global community. We stress the total development of each child: intellectual, social, emotional, spiritual, moral and physical in a welcome, secure and stimulating learning environment.
Marlborough is a happy and thriving school in the heart of the Devonport area of Plymouth. Marlborough Primary Academy is fully committed to encouraging all our children to achieve their full potential in both learning and social development. The Academy has a PAN of 244.
About the Trust
We are a family of schools working in partnership for the benefit of all our pupils and students. We believe our charitable aim, to advance education, is best achieved through collaboration, both within the Trust and beyond.
We operate 21 academies across Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, serving learners aged 3 to 19. Alongside our primary, all-through and technical provision, we are proud to include a strong and integral network of seven special schools and one alternative provision setting.
These settings are a vital part of our community, providing inclusive, high-quality education for pupils with a wide range of needs, including complex learning profiles, autism, and social, emotional and mental health needs, as well as those who benefit from a more personalised approach. Together, we are committed to helping every young person thrive.
