About the role
Overview
The Business Continuity Project Manager is responsible for leading the development, implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the Wales Route Business Continuity Management (BCM) programme. Operating within the Operations function, the role provides expertise in business continuity planning, resilience, business impact analysis and project management, ensuring alignment with Network Rail's Corporate Business Continuity Framework, Standard and Resilience Strategy.
Working within established governance, policies and processes, the postholder will lead the delivery of the route's business continuity programme across all functional areas, focusing on Operational delivery. This includes developing and maintaining business continuity plans, facilitating business impact assessments, coordinating exercising and assurance activities, identifying improvements and driving the implementation of actions to strengthen organisational resilience.
The role requires close collaboration with stakeholders across the route, region and national functions, as well as external stakeholders including operators and emergency services to ensure a consistent and effective approach to resilience and business continuity. The postholder will represent the route at business continuity, resilience and emergency preparedness forums, workshops and events, providing advice and guidance to support compliance and best practice.
In addition to business continuity responsibilities, the Business Continuity Project Manager will lead the planning, coordination and delivery of Network Rail's operational readiness for Category A events across the Wales Route. Working in partnership with industry partners, transport operators, local authorities, emergency services and event organisers, the role will ensure robust plans are developed and executed to support the safe and efficient operation of the railway to support the movement of passengers during major events, delivering a coordinated and resilient response to increased operational demands.
This role requires a highly organised and proactive project professional with the ability to build strong relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels. Comfortable working across operational, strategic and multi-agency environments, you will be able to manage competing priorities, coordinate complex activities and drive delivery through others.
Your Main Responsibilities will be to
- Deliver the project(s) safely to time, cost and quality, in accordance with the requirements, applicable Railway Group, Network Rail company standards and other specific legislation.
- Provide a professional, first class, consistent and effective project management service to the clients, including project monitoring and reporting systems in accordance with Railway Group, Network Rail company standards and guidelines.
- Participate in the development of supply strategies and delivery mechanisms.
- Control project change, risks and contingency within the project life cycle in line with the functions core compliance requirements
- Provide a safe working environment in the execution of work directly under the post holder's responsibility.
- Identify training needs in safety, technical and management areas to contribute to their personal development.
- Comply with the Investment Competence Framework.
- Establish and manage collaborative cross-functional virtual teams to deliver change projects, where appropriate.
Pay and Rewards
Salary: This role is a Band 3.B: £46,701 - £56,963 per annum.

Your experience and skills
You will ideally have
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent
- Relevant successful experience in project management
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Capable of motivating various stakeholders across multiple functions and teams
- Keeping people safe on the railway is at the heart of everything we do. Safe behaviour is therefore a requirement of working for Network Rail. You should demonstrate your personal dedication to safety within your application.
