Main duties of the job
As a Medicine Management Technician, you will

• Provide a comprehensive pharmaceutical service with particular emphasis on the technical aspects of the accurate preparation and dispensing of medicines to inpatients, out patients and patients being discharged from hospital, and for the supply of medicines to wards, departments, and partnership organisations under supervision.
• Gain experience in all areas of ward based medicines management as well as dispensary services, clinical trials and mentoring other staff.
• Work alongside Clinical Pharmacists supporting the Medicines Management service to the wards, ensuring patients receive the highest standards of care in the management of their medication. Duties will include taking medication histories, assessment of patients own drugs (PODs), and preparation of medication for discharge.

Essential qualifications and training

• Professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
• BTEC Level 3 in principles and practice for Pharmacy Technicians or equivalent qualification.
• NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills or equivalent qualification.
• Accuracy checking qualification or must be willing to undertake accuracy checking qualification.

Essential knowledge, skills and experience

• Supervisory / training experience
• Experience of using pharmacy-based computer systems
• Work to high standards of accuracy and reliably demonstrate from experience
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to form positive relationships
• Evidence ability to work independently using own initiative
• Evidence ability to prioritise tasks.

Desirable

• Hospital experience desirable
• Experience of working at ward level as a Medicines Management Technician
• Experience of working with automated dispensing systems
