This role has a starting salary of £39,249 per annum, based on working 36 hours per week.
We are excited to be hiring newly qualified Social Workers, or those in the final few months of their training, to join our Adults East 2 Area team, based in Weybridge, Dorking and Epsom. The role offers hybrid working, with an expectation of 2-3 days in the office after induction, which is office-based full-time.
We are looking for individuals who share our values and are motivated to make a significant and positive difference to the lives of our residents. Social Workers can promote strengths, advocate for rights and empower people to improve their quality of life.
Our Offer to You
- 26 days' holiday, rising to 28 days after 2 years' service and 31 days after 5 years' service
- Option to buy up to 10 days of additional annual leave
- A generous local government salary related pension
- Up to 5 days of carer's leave and 2 paid volunteering days per year
- Paternity, adoption and dependents leave
- An Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to support health and wellbeing
- Learning and development hub where you can access a wealth of resources
- Wellbeing and lifestyle discounts including gym, travel, and shopping
- A chance to make a real difference to the lives of our residents
About the Team
We are a large, diverse and supportive team working across community and hospital settings to help adults with eligible care and support needs live as independently as possible. Using a strengths-based approach, we provide advice, guidance, safeguarding support and access to community resources, while promoting choice, control and wellbeing.
Working closely with residents, carers, families and partner organisations, we are committed to helping people achieve the best possible outcomes and ensuring carers feel valued and supported. We foster a friendly, collaborative and reflective culture, encouraging continuous learning, development and innovation.
The team supports adults aged 18+ with care and support needs, including older people, those with physical disabilities, long-term illnesses and sensory impairments. Successful candidates will benefit from a structured induction, strong team support, excellent training and development opportunities, including the Social Work Academy's Senior Readiness Programme.
About the Role
Using a strengths-based approach you will be working with residents who have differing and/or complex needs, providing you with an opportunity to consolidate your existing skills and knowledge while developing new practice capabilities.
We recognise that newly qualified Social Workers need an additional period of support in their transition into practice. Therefore, our established ASYE programme will provide you with the opportunity to develop your knowledge, skills and professional Social Work identity.
You will be paired with an Assessor who will provide regular supervision, direct observations, and tailored feedback aligned to your learning objectives. You will complete an ASYE Portfolio to evidence your development against the Professional Capability Standards (for the ASYE level), and to develop critically reflective practice. The programme offers protected development time, a protected caseload, and opportunities for shadowing and cross‑team learning across core areas of adult social care practice, such as effective assessments, outcome-based support planning, safeguarding adults and mental capacity. Together, these elements help you build confidence and professional autonomy as you progress through your first year as a qualified Social Worker. Successful completion of the ASYE is a requirement in this role.
Further information about the ASYE Programme can be found here ASYE Programme (Assessed and Supported Year in Employment) .
Your Application
In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours:
- You are currently on track to successfully complete the final year of a Social Work degree apprenticeship, or you have successfully completed a Social Work degree within the last two years.
- To be registered with Social Work England or planning to register with Social Work England upon completion of your Social Work degree.
- Area-based social workers will be expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK and access to a vehicle and be willing to travel across a wide geographical area. Reasonable adjustments, where needed, will be made for successful applicants who have a disability or long-term health condition to enable them to fulfil the requirements of the job.
To apply, we request that you submit a CV and you will be asked the following four questions:
- Looking at our advert, and considering the Council's commitment to ensuring that "no one is left behind", please tell us what it is about the role that has motivated you to apply?
- Please tell us about the relevant experience or transferable skills you have that you can bring to this role?
- What three qualities do you have that would make you a good Social Worker and how do these qualities support Surrey County Council's culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and adaptability?
- Please describe a situation from your professional practice where you identified, assessed and managed risk when working with an adult, carer or family.
Successful applicants may have the opportunity to work in an unregistered social care post prior to registration with Social Work England (SWE).
Before submitting your application, we recommend you read the job description & Our Life at Surrey handbook to get an insight into working at Surrey.
