Business Development Manager

£22 - £25.4 per hourEstimated

This role would be suited to a confident, analytical, and structured sales professional who can combine market insight, technical understanding, disciplined pipeline management, and strong customer relationships to deliver sustainable revenue growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identifying, developing, and converting new business opportunities within oil and gas, industrial gases, offshore energy, manufacturing, and related industrial markets.
  • Building and maintaining a strong pipeline of qualified prospects through structured lead generation, market mapping, customer outreach, referrals, networking, and industry engagement.
  • Managing and growing key accounts by developing trusted relationships with decision-makers, technical stakeholders, procurement teams, and senior customer contacts.
  • Understanding customer requirements, commercial drivers, operational challenges, and technical needs, then position relevant products, services, and solutions effectively.
  • Preparing and managing proposals, quotations, presentations, tender responses, and commercial submissions in collaboration with General Manager, operations, finance, and admin support teams.
  • Leading customer meetings, discovery discussions, negotiations, and contract follow-up in a confident and professional manner.
  • Using sales reporting tools to maintain accurate records of leads, opportunities, account plans, activity, forecasts, and conversion progress.
  • Analysing market trends, competitor activity, customer demand, and sector developments to identify growth opportunities and support commercial strategy.
  • Collaborating with admin support, operations, supply chain, and technical colleagues to ensure customer commitments are realistic, deliverable, and commercially sound.
  • Supporting retention and growth of existing accounts through regular account reviews, structured follow-up, issue resolution, and identification of cross-sell and upsell opportunities.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience in business development, field sales, inside sales, key account management, or strategic sales within oil and gas, industrial gases, energy, chemicals, engineering services, or a related technical / industrial sector.
  • Strong track record of generating new business, developing customer relationships, managing complex sales cycles, and achieving commercial targets.
  • Good understanding of B2B sales processes, prospect qualification, pipeline management, proposal development, pricing discussions, and contract negotiation.
  • Commercially astute, with the ability to interpret customer needs, assess opportunities, understand margins, and prioritise high-value prospects.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to engage credibly with operational, technical, procurement, and senior management stakeholders.
  • Analytical and structured in approach, with strong planning, organisation, reporting, and follow-through skills.
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams to deliver customer requirements.
  • Resilient, proactive, and results-oriented, with the confidence to pursue new opportunities and challenge constructively where needed.

  • Experience selling gases, gas-related services, equipment, logistics, technical services, or engineered solutions into industrial or offshore markets.
  • Knowledge of customer segments such as offshore operators, EPC contractors, fabricators, energy service companies, manufacturing sites, marine, utilities, and heavy industry.
  • Experience working with tenders, framework agreements, long sales cycles, technical stakeholders, or regulated industrial environments.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems, sales dashboards, account planning tools, and structured sales methodologies.

  • Growth in qualified pipeline and new customer opportunities.
  • Achievement of revenue, margin, and activity targets.
  • Improved conversion rates from lead to proposal and proposal to order.
  • Development and retention of key accounts.
