Year 1 Teacher - Southampton

We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and experienced Year 1 Teacher to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Southampton, starting as soon as possible. This role provides an exciting opportunity to teach pupils as they transition from Reception into Key Stage 1, helping them develop strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, and personal growth while fostering a love of learning.

The successful candidate will take full responsibility for a Year 1 class, delivering high-quality lessons that are engaging, interactive, and differentiated to meet the needs of all pupils. The Role

As a Year 1 Teacher, you will plan, deliver, and assess lessons across all curriculum subjects, ensuring pupils are challenged while receiving appropriate support. You will track progress, identify gaps in learning, and adapt your teaching to ensure all pupils make strong progress academically and socially. Encouraging independence, resilience, and confidence will be central to your practice.

You will work closely with teaching assistants, colleagues, and phase leaders to maintain consistency and high standards across Key Stage 1. Clear communication with parents and carers will be an essential part of your role, supporting pupils’ learning both in school and at home.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality lessons in line with the Year 1 curriculum

• Track pupil progress and use assessment to inform planning

• Differentiate learning for all pupils, including SEND and EAL learners

• Maintain a structured, positive, and inclusive classroom environment

• Promote positive behaviour, independence, and resilience

• Collaborate with teaching assistants and Key Stage 1 colleagues

• Communicate effectively with parents and carers

• Participate in staff meetings, CPD, and whole-school initiatives

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will:

• Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Have experience teaching Key Stage 1, ideally Year 1

• Be confident in delivering phonics, early literacy, and numeracy

• Demonstrate excellent classroom management and organisational skills

• Be reflective, adaptable, and proactive

• Show a clear commitment to inclusion and safeguarding

• Work positively as part of a team
