Principal Contractor Site Manager

Where will you be working?
At M Group Energy, we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives.
We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.
This role will be within our Transmission & Renewables team. We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.

What will you be doing?
As a Principal Contractor Site Manager (M&E) , you’ll oversee major Substation works, ensuring safe, compliant, and high-quality execution from initial mobilisation through to successful handover.
- Day-to-day management of site operatives, subcontractors and site work
- Development and implementation of Safety documentation including Construction Phase plans, site quality plans and Risk Assessments Method Statements
- Sensible Monitoring of site operatives and subcontractors regarding Health and Safety, Quality and Environment
- Identify training requirements for site personnel
- Ensure full compliance with all Morrison procedures and current legislation
- Client liaison whilst on site, including client audits
- Chairing weekly coordination meetings
- Procurement of materials
- Planning and programming of current and future works, i.e. rolling programmes
- Notify the Construction/Project manager of possible variations and keep suitable contemporary records
- Compilation of documents and as-built drawings for Handover files

What you’ll bring
- Extensive knowledge of construction methodologies within the Electricity Transmission industry
- Competency to work in Substations up to 400kV inclusive
- Knowledge of NEC contracts with Cost / Value reporting exposure
- Knowledge of current legislation relating to Health, Safety and Environment
- Skilled in organising resources and establishing priorities
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to work within budget and to programme timescales
- Ability to work within a team environment including clients, designers, H&S Advisers, site staff, quantity surveyors and estimators
- IT literate, specifically in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
- Full UK driving licence – must be prepared to travel across sites and work away where required
Desirable
- Qualified to a suitable level in Construction, Mechanical Engineering or an Electrical Engineering discipline
- Previous or current authorisation to National Grid TP 137.11, which includes requirements for the following;
- Understand the causes and consequences of Impressed Voltage IV awareness certificate or equivalent
- Understand the requirements of relevant UK Health and Safety legislation, and in particular CDM Regulations. CITB Site Managers Safety Training Scheme/ NEBOSH General or construction certificate/IOSH Managing Safety Certificate
- Understand the general requirements of BS5975:2008 concerning procedural control of Temporary Works. Temporary works supervisor authorisation
- National Grid Competent Person Authorised
- Understand the general requirements of UK Environmental and Waste Management legislation, EUSR certificate or equivalent
- Understanding of avoiding underground services, HSG47 certificate or equivalent
- Appropriate working knowledge of relevant current National Grid Transmission Procedures (TP) and Supplier Requirements (SR)
