Teaching Assistant - SEND / 1:1 Support

Location: Rochdale
Start Date: Early October
Role: Long-term
Pay: £95-£120 per day, depending on experience

Cover People are currently recruiting for an experienced Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Rochdale, supporting a pupil with additional needs on a long-term basis.

This is a specialist support role suited to a caring and experienced TA who understands the needs of children with Down syndrome, language and communication disorders and limited or non-verbal communication .

The Role

You will provide consistent, nurturing support to a pupil throughout the school day, helping them to access learning, develop communication and build their independence.

The role will involve:

• Providing dedicated support to a pupil with additional needs
• Supporting access to learning and classroom activities
• Helping to develop communication and language skills
• Using appropriate strategies to support a child with limited or non-verbal communication
• Supporting social interaction and engagement with peers
• Providing personal care, hygiene and toileting support where required
• Encouraging independence and confidence throughout the school day
• Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
• Working closely with the class teacher and wider support team
• Adapting activities and approaches to meet individual needs
• Monitoring and celebrating progress
• Helping create a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment

About You

The school would ideally like to hear from Teaching Assistants who have previous experience supporting children with:

• Down syndrome
• Language and communication disorders
• Non-verbal or minimally verbal communication
• Personal care and toileting needs
• Additional or complex SEND

You will need to be patient, nurturing and consistent, with the ability to build a strong relationship with the pupil while maintaining high expectations.

Previous experience in a primary school or specialist SEND setting would be advantageous, although relevant experience supporting children with additional needs will also be considered.
