The Purpose

As a Quantum Algorithm Engineer specialising in Generative Models, you'll develop low-qubit quantum methods for synthetic and rare-event data generation. You'll explore where quantum approaches can deliver meaningful value, rigorously benchmark them against strong classical alternatives, and turn validated research into components that can run through OQC's hybrid computing platform.

The Role

Based in London, you'll work at the intersection of quantum algorithms, generative modelling and applied product development. You'll design and test quantum generative approaches on both simulators and QPUs, optimising them around the realities of today's quantum hardware.

This is an opportunity to take quantum algorithms beyond theoretical performance. You'll work experimentally, challenge assumptions with evidence and help determine which approaches have the potential to become useful, repeatable capabilities within real-world hybrid computing workflows.

What You'll Be Working On

• Develop conditional, low-qubit quantum generators for synthetic and rare-event data, including banking use cases.
• Design and evaluate approaches including latent-space QCBMs, adversarial models and continuous-output quantum generative methods.
• Experiment with QCBMs, qGANs, quantum Boltzmann methods, variational circuits and quantum sampling techniques.
• Benchmark quantum generative models rigorously against strong classical alternatives to establish where they provide meaningful value.
• Optimise circuits, measurements and training requirements around realistic QPU constraints and hardware limitations.
• Test and validate approaches across simulators and quantum hardware, using experimental evidence to guide development.
• Package validated quantum generator components for repeatable execution through OQC's hybrid computing platform.

What We're Looking For

• Experience as a quantum algorithms researcher or engineer, with a focus on low-qubit generative modelling.
• Hands-on experience with approaches such as QCBMs, qGANs, quantum Boltzmann methods, variational circuits or quantum sampling.
• Strong understanding of quantum algorithms and the practical constraints involved in executing them on current quantum hardware.
• A rigorous experimental approach, including a willingness to benchmark quantum techniques against credible classical alternatives.
• The ability to turn research questions into structured experiments, analyse results and use evidence to determine the next technical direction.
• Strong ownership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across quantum, software, product and engineering disciplines.
• Degree or equivalent practical experience in Quantum Computing, Computer Science, Physics or a related discipline.

The 'Nice-to-Haves'

• Experience taking quantum research software or experimental methods into repeatable engineering workflows.
• Experience packaging research algorithms or models for integration into broader software platforms.
• Familiarity with regulated enterprise use cases and evidence-led product development.
• Experience applying quantum generative modelling to synthetic or rare-event datasets.
• A pragmatic, curious approach and comfort working in a fast-evolving technical environment.
• A relevant professional or postgraduate qualification.
