Estates Manager - Independent School in Brighton

A highly regarded independent school in Brighton is seeking an experienced and proactive Estates Manager to take responsibility for the effective management, maintenance, and development of the school’s estate. This is a full-time, permanent position with an ASAP start, ideal for a strong operational leader with experience in educational or similar environments.

Full-time, permanent senior operational role

The role involves overseeing the day-to-day operation of the school site, ensuring buildings and grounds are safe, compliant, and well presented. You will manage estates staff and contractors, oversee health & safety and statutory compliance, and work closely with senior leaders to support the smooth running of the school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overall management of school buildings, grounds, and facilities

  • Ensuring compliance with health & safety, fire safety, and statutory regulations

  • Managing maintenance schedules, servicing, and refurbishment projects

  • Line management of caretaking, estates, and facilities staff

  • Liaising with contractors and external service providers

  • Supporting school operations, events, and long-term estate planning

Experience and Qualifications

  • Proven experience as an Estates Manager, Facilities Manager, or similar

  • Strong knowledge of health & safety and statutory compliance

  • Experience managing teams, contractors, and budgets

  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a busy school environment

  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
