We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a Pupil Referral Unit in Newport, supporting pupils with Additional Learning Needs, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and behavioural difficulties. The school is keen to speak with applicants from a variety of backgrounds including education, care and sports coaches.
This is a full-time, long-term role with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
About the Role:
- Provide support to primary - aged pupils with additional learning needs, particularly SEMH and challenging behaviour
- Work with pupils in small groups and on a 1:1 basis to promote engagement, wellbeing, and progress
- Collaborate with teaching staff and the wider support team to implement tailored behaviour and learning strategies
- Help create a positive learning environment
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience supporting children with additional learning needs, particularly SEMH, is desirable
- A Team Teach qualification is a distinct advantage
- Strong communication skills, patience, and a resilient, caring approach
- A genuine passion for helping children thrive both emotionally and academically
