The post holder will function as an expert clinical practitioner within the specialty, acting as a clinical and professional resource to the multi disciplinary team, patients and carers. They will hold a current V300 non-medical prescribing qualification or will be open to working to this level. They will deliver direct patient care whilst managing, leading, co-ordinating and overseeing nursing practice. They will work in partnership with the Renal Unit Operational Manager taking a lead role in the co-ordination and delivery of Centre Haemodialysis. They will take responsibility for the introduction of new modes of therapy, formulation of policies, procedures, standards and operational strategies relating to haemodialysis and will ensure the efficient and effective utilisation of resources to deliver optimum quality care. The post holder will deputise for the Nurse Manager in his / her absence, driving forward evidence based practice and take responsibility for the supervision of staff and the policies and practices that operate within their clinical area. They will support the Renal Unit Operational Manager in many aspects of staff management to include staff recruitment and retention, appraisals, assessment of competence, sickness absence management, formulation of duty rosters and compliance with all HR policies and guidelines. Main duties of the job
- To be a specialist practitioner with at least 5 years senior band 6 experience
- To be able to lead innovation and demonstrate clinical expertise in the field of Centre Haemodialysis (CHD) in the main dialysis unit at RSH.
- To act as a resource and advisor on all aspects of acute and chronic haemodialysis management to patients, relatives and colleagues both in renal services and other wards / departments throughout the Trust.
- To practice clinically, leading, coordinating and supervising nursing practice. Ensuring that all patients who are referred for haemodialysis have their needs assessed, that programmes of care are developed to meet these needs and are delivered in accordance with agreed policies and procedures.
- To monitor care given to patients and, utilising best practice and available evidence, demonstrate competence in choosing an appropriate method of treatment delivery when a range of options are available.
- To co-ordinate the CHD patient timetable and plan the allocation of staff, hardware and consumables in the most efficient way in order to maximise the frequency and duration of dialysis.
- To attend monthly MDT's with renal consultants.
- Will be conversant with clinical IT and renal database, ensuring that required data is entered & up to date.
- To update policies and procedures evident to current practice guidelines.
